Use a Job Search Master Mind Group

Posted by in Career Advice

In Napoleon Hill’s classic book, "Think and Grow Rich", he talks about a concept that can help you be more successful in your job search. Mr. Hill refers to it as the "master mind". The master mind describes the practice of meeting with one or more other people with the purpose of supporting each other as you work toward accomplishing your specific goals.

Indentify the Right People
Here is how you can use this concept with your job search. Identify one to two other people who, like yourself are looking for a job. Agree to meet at least once per week and to either text each other or call each other on your cell phone at least twice a week.

Compare Notes
When you meet, discuss which activities you have engaged in that you are using to help you get hired. During this time you can talk about the ideas that are working, and how you are using them. You can share your thoughts about additional ideas you are generating and how you plan to implement them.

Feel free to discuss what is not working. Be open to receiving feedback from your master mind partners on how you can improve your efforts, and make some of the ideas being generated more successful.

Collaborate
You can share potential job listings or personal contacts that may be of mutual interest with each other. Another great benefit of a master mind group is the synergy that is created. By meeting on a regular basis, in person and electronically, you create the opportunity to collaborate and help each other become successful in all of your quests for a new job.

Of course there will be disappointments you will experience in your job search. The nice thing about your master mind group, is that it can help you put things in perspective and give you the motivation to continue on when the going gets tough. And finally, the members of your group can help each other have fun finding a new job and make it a truly enjoyable experience.
