Ways To Stop Procrastinating - Today!

You have a deadline that is hanging over your head, but instead of doing your work, you're checking email, updating your Facebook, watching videos on YouTube, and doing anything but working. You should be working, but you just aren't feeling it.

Procrastinating is one of the easiest ways to fail at whatever it is you're trying to do. Wasting your time and putting off the important tasks until it's too late can start a vicious cycle. It is a bad habit, but there are things you can do to stop procrastinating once and for all.

If you are a chronic procrastinator, here are some things you can do that will help you break the habit:

  1. Break it down - sometimes, the reason we avoid work is because it can seem too overwhelming. If you break it down into little tasks, you can focus on each one individually. When you break a job down into small phases, it can make it seem extremely simple and you'll be less likely to put it off.
  2. Change your workspace - sometimes, rearranging your workspace can give you a new outlook. Especially if you do a lot of work at home, you may want to avoid trying to get work done when you're too comfortable. But, even at the office, changing things around can make you feel inspired.
  3. Create a time line - when you have a deadline, and you put it off, you are putting off the whole project until the last minute. But if you break things down into small tasks and create a time line with specific deadlines for each task, it can create a bigger sense of urgency.
  4. Eliminate pit stops - don't make it easy to procrastinate. Figure out which websites, blogs, and other things keep you from getting your work done. Identifying the trouble areas can make them easier to avoid.
  5. Just do it - no matter how much planning you do, if you don't just do it, nothing is going to happen. Do whatever it takes to force yourself to just get started. Once you get started, you'll find that getting it finished is easier than you thought.

How do you deal with procrastination? What are some of the ways that work best for you? I would love to hear your thoughts in the comments.
