With the new normal that COVID-19 created or exposed, we have some adjusting to do when it comes to the working world. Below are examples of COVID-19 related questions that you can ask during your job interview so that you can know what to expect if you are hired and how to strive as a great employee, while also being safe:

1. What steps did your business/company take to keep employees safe when COVID-19 began?

This particular question is for companies whose employees remained working in-person. This way, you will find out what the employer did to prevent employees from contracting or spreading COVID-19. For instance, if the employer required weekly COVID-19 tests or daily temperature checks to be done on employees. Or also, if the employer provided employees with personal protective equipment (PPE) such as: masks, gloves and hand sanitizer.

2. What training do you provide employees with in order to keep them safe during customedisputes regarding any COVID-related policies??

This question is for those interviewing for job positions involving direct customer contact. This is to know how the employer plans to keep you, as an employee, safe in the event that a customer refuses to comply with any policies that are put in place to prevent the spread of COVID-19. This plan is especially essential in order to prevent any injuries if a customer resorts to violence.

3. Did furloughed? employees continue to receive pay??

This question is for companies whose employees could no longer work due to their jobs requiring in-person labor. That way, you will know that in the event that we experience another pandemic and employees are furloughed again, you will continue to be paid. The idea of getting paid without having to do the work is great, but a reason this is such a great benefit is it helps minimize stress related to going through a pandemic.?

4. Are employees allowed paid sick leave if they contract COVID-19??

Ask for details about the policies the company that you are interviewing for has set regarding employees who contract COVID-19, so that you know whether or not you will continue to get paid in the event that you need to quarantine. Asking about this will also help you to know all that you will be required to do in order to take your sick leave. For instance, some employers may require proof of illness by asking for a doctor’s note.

5. Will I be expected to come into work in person or am I going to be working remotely?

Depending on the position you applied for, it might be unclear as to whether or not you will be working in-person or remotely if you get the job. If your interviewer neglects to tell you during the interview, be sure to ask. Knowing the answer to this question will help you to prepare in case you get the job, by looking into commuting options or getting the right equipment to work from home, if necessary.?

6. Are employees who are required to work from home provided the equipment to do so??

Once you are aware if you would be working remotely or in-person, be sure to find out if you will be given the equipment you need to do so. This will help you to know if you will need to buy your own equipment to work remotely or if your employer will provide those for you.
