As your job search drags on, it’s easy to become discouraged. Maybe you didn’t land an interview for the job you really wanted or never got a call back after an interview that seemed to go well. You’re back to square one, feeling rejected and disappointed. Turn your attitude around and get back to your job search with these 10 ways to boost your confidence.

1. Make Lists

Before continuing your job search, make some time to stroke your ego. List all your strengths, and jot down achievements that make you proud. Craft a list of skills that make you an ideal candidate for the position you want. Recognizing your strengths gives you an instant confidence boost and helps guide your responses for future interviews.

2. Seek Out Support

Talk to a trusted friend or family member about your job search. Discuss your struggles, explain your fears and elaborate on your career goals. Confide in those who build you up and make you feel good about yourself.

3. Do Your Research

Get geared up for your job interview by learning all you can about the hiring organization. Review the company’s mission and goals, read about its key players, and research products and services. Peruse news articles, press releases and customer reviews.

4. Censor the Self-Talk

Don’t let the voices in your head get you down. Practice meditation rather than focusing on self-doubt. When thoughts of failure creep up, replace them with memories of past accomplishments.

5. Practice Your Pitch

Practice and preparation are the keys to feeling confident during an interview. Rehearse your answers to common interview questions in front of the mirror or with a trusted friend or family member.

6. Exercise Regularly

Stay active throughout your job search. Regularly take a walk or go for a run. If you’re inside, do push-ups, sit-ups or jumping jacks to get your heart pumping. A little bit of physical exertion has a positive effect on your self-esteem.

7. Clean up Your Image

Nothing can shatter your confidence like a hiring manager bringing up an inappropriate Facebook post or questionable Instagram photo. Make sure your social media profiles are squeaky clean and present a professional image.

8. Try a New Hobby

Conquering a new hobby gives you a sense of accomplishment that can make your confidence soar. Take up gardening, learn to prepare some new recipes or consider learning a new sport.

9. Eliminate Negativity

If pessimistic people are dragging you down, dump them from your life. Surround yourself with people who support you and back your professional goals.

10. Break a Bad Habit

Whether you want to quit smoking or stop procrastinating, now’s the time to do it. That sense of satisfaction that comes from breaking a bad habit has a positive influence on your self-esteem.

A job search can feel like it’s never-ending, and you may be losing hope that you’ll ever land a job. Don’t give up. Quickly move on from the setbacks, and savor the little triumphs. What methods do you use to boost your confidence for a successful job search?
