Think of your resume as a billboard that sells you to the recruiter. Hiring manager sees hundreds of resumes each week, so yours has to stand out from the rest. With these 10 tips, you can create a resume that touts your value to the organization.

1. Choose the Right Keywords

Most modern-day employers use applicant tracking systems to scan resumes before recruiters even lay eyes on them. Draw out the most important keywords from the job description, and sprinkle them throughout your resume to increase the odds of getting it onto the hiring manager's desk.

2. Create a Career Summary

Don't start your resume off with an old-school objective statement; craft a career summary instead. Open with two or three sentences that introduce you, mention your most significant skills and qualifications, and discuss your career goals.

3. Quantify Your Achievements

Use quantifiable data to back up your claims. Rather than saying that you "Sold services to customers," tell how you "Exceeded company sales goals by at least 15 percent in every quarter for 3 consecutive years."

4. Brag About Your Accomplishments

Add impressive achievements to your resume, such as awards you won, records your broke or promotions you received. Make sure they're relevant to the job for which you're applying.

5. Select Relevant Work Experience

If you have a long work history, it's not necessary to list every job you've ever worked. Choose the most relevant ones. Include the job title, company name, employment dates and your accomplishments.

6. Steer Clear of Clichés

Avoid tired phrasing on your resume, such as "strong communicator," "fast learner" or "team player." If you want to tout these skills, include achievements that demonstrate them.

7. Update Your Contact Information

Make sure the contact information on your resume is current, and include your phone number and email address. Be sure to use an email address that is appropriate and professional.

8. Share Your Hobbies

Feel free to include a few of your hobbies or interests on your resume. This lets the hiring manager determine whether you're a good fit for the company culture.

9. Opt for Quality References

List former colleagues, college professors, mentors or other professional contacts as references. Make sure you ask for permission before listing anyone as a reference on your resume.

10. Include Social Media Profiles

Reference your LinkedIn profile on your resume along with your contact information. Ensure your profile is up-to-date and that you're using a professional photo. Gear your profile to the type of job you're hoping to get.
