Ski Resort Jobs Looking Up

Posted by in Tourism & Hospitality

If you’re looking for a ski resort job, ‘tis the season to be merry—especially in New Mexico. After suffering from a lack of moisture since last winter, ski conditions are excellent from Red River and Taos all the way south to the mountains near Ruidoso.

Taos Ski Valley had their best opening in years. Lifts began running before Thanksgiving at Sipapu, and snowboarders started cutting through packed powder runs at Ski Apache Thanksgiving Day. Last year, visits to New Mexico's ski areas were off by more than 25 percent, a sharp and disappointing decline from the nearly 1 million visits in 2009-10.

Angel Fire, Santa Fe, Sandia and Pajarito ski areas will open in December with cross country skiing and snowshoeing with a new Nordic center. Drawing even more visitors, the resort's terrain park will feature more than 12 new freestyle rails. Angel Fire's summit has been blessed with more snow this year than last, and nighttime snowmaking conditions have been excellent.
