Career and Management Advice from Donald Trump

Whether you like him or not, Don Trump has achieved a level of success many executives only dream of. A master of real-estate investing, his advice to rising young executives is both timely and critically important.

 
Some nuggets of wisdom paraphrased from the Donald:

 
Hire good people. Employees have to work as a team or the team will dissolve. Good managers will eventually leave, taking good workers with them. What's left is a mediocre team that gets along for the paycheck and not the pursuit of excellence. Always get the best people you can. Value focused, disciplined workers who can solve problems creatively. Creative people are mostly self-motivated and eager to push the envelope. They are restless and tireless. Challenge them.

 
Stay focused on the big picture. Never lose sight of the big picture when attending to daily details. Hire people who follow this philosophy. Details are important, but vision toward the goal line is key. It can help you shift and move so you reach your goal without wasting time or money.

 
Turn Winners Loose. Once you've assembled the right team, turn them loose and see what they can do. This is one case where you don't want to micromanage. Use your intuition, your business acumen to put the right people together.

 
Be Accessible. Move in and around the lower ranks. Talk to your workers, but don't interfere unless absolutely necessary. Let them know you're available. Convince them that you're a good listener as well as a good leader.
