Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a hot and trending topic in today’s evolving world. More and more employers are incorporating engines like ChatGPT and new state-of-the-art AI tools in their workspaces. The positive impacts of AI can be found in all departments of an organization; from human resources to tech support. In 2024, 71% of employers indicated a preference for candidates with AI skills over those with more experience but lacking such skills. As a job seeker you must put your best foot forward; seeking ways to make yourself stand out from the rest of the crowd. With that being said, here are the most in demand AI skills you should include on your resume to make your application stronger.

Computer Programming

Does “Javascript, Python, or C++” ring a bell? These programming languages are all highly desired especially in technical roles. If you are applying to software developer or software engineer roles, many of the workplaces require that you know a few programming languages. Some companies even have their candidates take at-home and in-person assessments to test their candidate’s knowledge. Even if you are not applying to these highly technical roles, learning a few of these programming tools will help you communicate to program managers in charge of these technologies. It will also communicate your brilliance and ability to learn sophisticated topics.

Automation

Do you know how to configure certain emails to send when you are out of the office, or set your calendar to automatically decline meetings after 5pm? Automation allows users the ability to delegate repetitive tasks to artificial intelligence. Automation can be as complex and technical as programming a series of robots to self-drive, or simple like adding a recurring signature to each one of your messages. Employers are always looking for ways to increase productivity and efficiency. Automation allows employees to focus on more of the important work while leaving mundane repetitive tasks for AI to handle.

Certifications

There are many different types of certifications that can demonstrate your knack for AI. IBM, Microsoft, and Google are a few of the companies that have free classes and certifications for you to discover. Depending on the role you are applying to do some research and find what best aligns with the company and job you are seeking. These certifications can take anywhere from a day to a few months to accomplish, however they are worth the time and effort. Not only are certifications more affordable than a university degree and are in demand. Certifications are proof of competence for employers.

Whether it be automation, programming, or anything in between, it is very beneficial for you to learn some sort of AI tool. In a recent survey conducted by Nexxt to see how job seekers plan to approach the job market, more than 40% of job seekers said they plan to learn more about AI in anticipation of using it at work. Taking the time to learn something shows a desire to grow and is the quality of a good job seeker. Furthermore, AI is the future with more and more workspaces are adopting AI tools and technologies.
