Over 1,000,000 calls were placed through Gmail in just 24 hours after they launched their new call feature. The free service allows Gmail users to make free calls to U.S. and Canada. A keypad appears in Gmail member’s Chat window and you can type in a number. Users use an internal microphone or a plugged in headset. It uses Gmail as an interface and there is an option to receive calls as well. Gmail is challenging Skype and other similar services. This new service could be beneficial to the recruitment world, where phone and web interviews are becoming very popular. Gmail Calls is a service recruiters can use to optimize everyone’s time and money. VoIP is one of the many industries that can benefit from Google’s calling feature. The more we stray from traditional calls and veer towards online telephony, the more demand there will be for better technology and systems.
