Finding a good internship can be the start of an amazing new career. Believe it or not, internships aren't just for college students anymore. For recent college graduates, people looking to re-enter the workforce after a long absence and even those professionals who have been unemployed for some time and are looking for a way to get some new job experience, internships are one way to go about it.

In New York City, there are many options for great internships. In fact, in Business Week's list of the 50 Best Internships, more than 15 were located in the city. In Manhattan, the possibilities can seem endless and it is hard to know where to start.

Here are some of the best internships in New York City:

  • Finance- With Wall St and the World Financial Center, New York is the home of some of the big players in the finance industry. PriceWaterhouseCoopers boast an 88% hire rate of their interns. Ernst & Young, another accounting firm, offer full-time jobs to a whopping 98% of their interns. If Investment Banking is more your style, Goldman Sachs and Merrill Lynch also have great internship programs.

  • Fashion- Nordstroms is famous for their customer service, and lesser known for their amazing internship opportunities. Their program is highly recommended for those who are interested in, or studying fashion.

  • Insurance- There are many internship opportunities in Insurance in the city. Metlife and American International Group are both on the top 50 lists and have a high hire rate of interns.

  • Science and Medicine- New York City is home to some of the most well respected hospitals in the country. From research to psychology and medicine, there are many wonderful internships to be had.

No matter where your interests lie, there is bound to be some amazing opportunities right in the city. Take a look around and think about where you want to end up.
