Top 3 Ways to Avoid Burnout This Year

Burnout. You hear about it all the time – people love to talk about burnout signs, burnout symptoms. But what about the ways to avoid burnout in general?  Here are 3 simple things you can do to make sure the burnout bug doesn’t bite.

1.  Take a Day If You Need It

It’s often tempting to save all of your PTO days for vacations on the beach or time off during the winter holidays – but you won’t make it to the winter holidays if you burn out! Consider using a day when you just can’t bare the thought of coming in. The office will go on without you. Especially if it’s only for a day.

2.  Take a Walk (...or a Run)

Take a break from your stressful workload by taking a walk during lunch, or even a run if you’re really ambitious. Not only will this help clear your mind, but it will make you feel better overall. As Elle Woods said “Exercise gives you endorphins. Endorphins make you happy...” So, give it a try. Even if it’s just a quick lap around the parking lot, the distraction and endorphins will help with your stress levels.

3.  Accept That You Can’t Please Everyone

No one wants to tell their coworkers that no, they can’t actually help them out. But sometimes, for your own sanity, you have to. That doesn’t mean skip out on your work or always avoid helping out your coworkers. This means if you’re already maxed out, don’t take on even more just to keep up appearances. People will understand that you’re busy with your own work – even if they don’t like it.

Burnout is a terrible reality for a lot of workers today. But, by following the three simple tips listed above, you can save yourself from becoming another burnout victim this year.
