JOB SUMMARY
Mount Saint Joseph Academy is a Catholic, college preparatory school for girls located outside of Philadelphia with a mission of empowering young women to realize their fullest potential. “The Mount” is seeking an innovative and collaborative educator for the English Department to provide a robust, inspired, dynamic education to young college-bound women, across grades 9-12, with the expertise and desire to teach American Literature and AP English Literature.
- The successful candidate will partner with the English Faculty to present a broad range of topics in a style that is both student-centered and mission-driven.
- The candidate will be skilled in teaching various learners at all levels and will be fluent in various types of assessment strategies.
- The candidate will demonstrate a passion for the Mount’s mission to empower young women to be agents of transformation in an ever-changing society.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop robust, student-centered, creative, and appropriate lesson plans, assignments, and assessments in the courses selected by Administration.
- Recognize varied ability levels and differentiate work accordingly.
- Collaborate with Academic Coach to design and implement learning experiences that serve diverse learners.
- Uphold the mission, discipline, and dynamic academic environment of MSJA.
- Engage families in their students’ education by building relationships and maintaining timely and consistent communication with parents and caregivers.
- Maintain careful records of student progress in line with departmental and school policy.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date curriculum information/syllabi on all classes taught.
- Maintain an accurate and updated gradebook through PowerSchool and course material through our LMS, Canvas.
- Act as a positive role model, who promotes the aims, values and mission of the school and uphold all rules and policies.
- Serve as an advisor to a group of 12 students, which includes implementing curriculum 1-2 times per week and duties as academic point person.
QUALIFICATIONS
- 3+ years of experience teaching English at the high school or college level.
- An ability to teach a broad span of topics (especially American and AP English Literature).
- Regards collaboration as an essential component of professional growth and values working on a team.
- Genuine interest, belief, and care for students’ personal and academic success.
- The ability to motivate, support, and challenge students in a student-centered, success-driven classroom community.
- Demonstrates cultural competency and skills engaging with, and learning from, people with diverse backgrounds and experiences.

- A strong sense of professional responsibility, as well as personal accountability for student achievement.
- Outstanding instructional skills delivered through varied, rigorous, and engaging strategies.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s Degree in English (required).
- Master’s Degree in English (preferred).
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Prolonged periods standing, walking, sitting, reaching, and computer/technology-use throughout the working period.
- Must be able to lift 15 pounds as needed.
POSITION DETAILS
- Full-time (10 months/year)
- Expected Hours of Work: Monday - Friday 8:00am-3:15pm, and select events on weekends/ evenings that pertain to all faculty (i.e. Open House, Back to School Night, Graduation, etc.)
- Reports to: Principal
