Role at a glance:
This role is for a senior software engineer/developer to join Lincoln's emerging Benefit Technology (BenTech) team. This development team is tasked with modernizing connectivity to external partners platforms - an initiative that's one of the top strategic priorities for the organization. The Workplace Solutions department provides insurance products and services to group/employer customers that reach millions of employee benefit plans across the United States.
This role will provide key contributions to the development of exchanging activity/data between internal systems of record (including Admin, Policy, Claims, etc) and partner platforms (including Workday, ADP, Plansource, etc). This has been primarily accomplished through API-based transaction within an event driven architecture, with significant cloud-based enhancements planned for the near future. The BenTech team is established, working within the SAFe agile framework, but still in the early stages of scaling/operationalizing - representing plenty of opportunity to influence.
The new capabilities delivered by this role/team will be leveraged to enhance the customers' experience and lead to improved sales opportunities and retention. This represents significant and direct impact to Lincoln Financial's position in the marketplace driven by technical capabilities.
What you will be doing:
Team-lead responsibilities with some oversight of more junior developers. Comfortable with mix of responsibilities from working with stakeholders/architects to hands-on development.
Contributed to the overall productivity and health of the team through identifying areas for improvement/innovation, training the team on new skills, establishing more efficient processes, etc
Actively participate in development team norms - Sprint Planning, Daily Huddles, Stakeholder Review, Retrospectives, Production Deployments, etc
Design, document, and implement stories through the team's backlog in collaboration with the Product Owner
Collaboration with stakeholders/partners to continuously incorporate business objectives to near term deliverables as well as the strategic roadmap
Cooperation with other teams and cross-functional leaders to maintain execution within the organizational best practices
Proactively monitor technical and industry trends to help improve the delivered product and software development practices
Accountability for overall quality delivered product through automated scans/tools, code review, team best practices, enterprise standards, etc
Analyzes, designs, codes, debugs, integrates, and tests complex software application solutions
Takes proactive ownership and responsibility for all aspects of the development lifecycles from planning/design to implementation/maintenance
Communicates effectively through written and verbal formats with team, internal stakeholders, and management
When necessary, represent Lincoln to external partners/teams in order to accomplish mutual integration goals
Provides direction on assignments, projects, and/or initiatives to build and enhance the capabilities of the BenTech program
Assesses and measures solution design impacts on IT infrastructure capacity, application architecture standards, future maintenance/support needs, and bottom-line cost-benefits in consultation with appropriate internal stakeholders
Serves as an escalation point, investigates and resolves complex problems, including support for production systems, in a timely manner
What we're looking for:
4 Year/Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology or Computer Engineering (Minimum Required)
5+ years' experience in application development that directly aligns with the specific responsibilities for this position (Required)
Java/Spring Boot development experience
Rest API development experience
Basic database knowledge
Strong communication skills of complex solutions to technical and non-technical audiences
Microservices and Event-Driven Architectures
AWS development experience
Knowledge of Group Insurance, Financial systems/products, or Benefit Administration platforms
