Many companies use a 90-day probation period to assess new employees. If your new job has a probation period, then you need to impress your employer if you want to continue in your role. The following tips can help you pass your probation period and show your new boss you are a great worker.

Work Hard From Day One

When you start a new job, it is tempting to ease yourself in gently and leave the hard work until later. However, knuckling down to work during the probation period could show your new employers they made the right decision in hiring you. It is also important to avoid getting a reputation among your new colleagues as a slacker during this crucial first few weeks.

Socialize With Your New Co-workers

Come into work every morning with a smile on your face and a cheery "hello" for each of your new colleagues. Introduce yourself to those who work near you in the office and take the time to say "hi" when you pass people in the hallway or meet them at the coffee machine. Being friendly and open allows you to quickly build strong relationships with your new co-workers.

Ask Questions

There are bound to be a few uncertainties in your new role. Do not be afraid to ask your co-workers or manager for help when learning how to use the computer system. Also ask questions about how things work at the organization, so you can better understand your place in it.

Take the Initiative

If you do not have enough to do during the first few weeks, then do not just wait around for your boss to give you more tasks to complete. Ask your co-workers whether they need any help and always be ready to take on extra responsibilities in the office.

Give It a Chance

Changing jobs is always disruptive. You might experience feelings of uncertainty and even wonder whether you made the right decision in taking the job. Give your new workplace a chance before you decide you do not like it. You might find you start to feel more settled after the first few weeks of work. If you still do not feel comfortable at the end of the probation period, then talk to your boss about aspects of your work that you dislike to see whether you can resolve the situation.

Your first 90 days at an organization is a critical time. During this period, you need to give your all to the job to impress your new employer and make a good impression on your new colleagues. By following these tips during your probation period, you can set yourself up for a rewarding career in your new workplace.
