Getting a Job With a Technology Giant

If you are passionate about the latest technologies coming out of Silicon Valley, you may be excited about the idea of getting a job with a technology giant, such as Facebook or Google. Are you confident enough to include these famous companies in your job search? If not, here is some advice that could give you the confidence you need to apply.

The first thing to remember is that not everyone who works for a technology giant has out-of-this-world technical skills. For example, a company like Facebook not only need technology experts, but it also needs people who can manage other aspects of the business. If you have an MBA or are a marketing expert, you could be just what a social media or technology giant is looking for.

Of course, you'll have a lot of competition if you choose to focus your job search on the technology giants. You must think about how you plan to make your application stand out and why you want to work for the company. When interviewing with a technology giant, you can't impress recruiters by saying "I use your app" or "I'm a member of your website," as this isn't going to make you stand out from the other candidates. Everyone uses products made by technology giants, so you need to look for a deeper connection. Begin by reading the CEO's book or following leaders from the company on social media so you can better understand the company's vision.

You also need to know what can you offer to the company. Think about your skills and experiences and how can they offer value to the technology giant. For example, perhaps you know that the technology company has developed an app or platform that is extremely popular with users, but is struggling to monetize that specific user base. If you have previously worked in a role that involved upselling premium services to existing customers, you might be able to help the technology giant develop a sustainable revenue model for their newest products or services.

As with any job application, you need to back up any claims about your skills and experiences with concrete examples. If you are applying for a role that involves managing a team, don't simply say that you are a good manager. Instead, talk about the time you increased productivity in your team by 30 percent in just three months or how you improved employee morale by 40 percent in your previous role.

Even if you don't have technical skills, you can apply for a job with a technology giant. However, you need to carefully prepare your application to ensure your success. Learn as much as you can about the company, and think about how your skills could help solve some of the company's challenges.
