ResolutionMD - the Healthcare Mobile App of the Future

When someone suffers and acute stroke, the outcome rests mainly on how quickly they receive expert care. In order to receive this care as soon as possible, an app has been created for the IPhone and Android which allows doctors to diagnose a stroke patient and begin prescribing treatment without being at the hospital. The app is called ResolutionMD and is already being used by some neuro-radiological specialists at hospitals in Europe. It works by taking imagery from a computerized tomography (CT) scan machine and feeds it into a companion server, which then compresses the data so it can be transmitted in high quality over the Internet. The information can then be streamed to a mobile app or Web browser, where doctors can zoom in on and manipulate brain-scan imagery. The program has received regulatory approval in Canada and Europe but has yet to gain the approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. The Results of a study performed to show the app’s accuracy was very impressive. Two neuro-radiologists were asked to evaluate 190 images for a possible sign of a stroke. Both specialists reached the same diagnosis using a phone as they did on a terminal in at least 94% of the trials. Testing and research is continually going on for the ResolutionMD app, but so far it looks to be very successful. Before you know it, doctors are going to be walking around the hospital with IPad’s instead of clipboards.
