Some Employers of Admin Jobs Eager to Help Employees

Like you, all I ever hear are dire news about California's terrible job market. Stagnating at 12 percent, it's certainly disheartening to job seekers in the Golden State. But there is good news buried under all those negative headlines. For one, according to a recent U.S. Federal Employment forecast for 2006 – 2016, many cities in California are expected to produce the largest number of newly created job openings in Clerical and Administrative. But the real news is that many employers are actually being pro-active and helping employees enhance their administrative careers a number of ways, including:

• Reimbursing administrative employees who attend college classes and work toward a degree. This goes a long way, since many admin jobs start at the bottom of the salary scale.
• Reimbursing employees for online training programs in technology, administrative, and management skills. This is the new wave of education that is growing rapidly among administrative employees, since it saves them the cost of travel and is generally less expensive to pursue. • Membership and participation in professional organizations. These organizations often have valuable mentoring groups that improve a variety of skill sets.
• Registration for conferences, seminars, and continuing education workshops that contribute directly to the skills and knowledge of employees in their particular job.
• Professional certification -- like the IAAP’s Certified Administrative Professional (CAP) (see http://www.iaap-hq.org/) or Certified Professional Secretary (CPS) programs. These are widely accepted standards of excellence in the industry.
