Tips for Juggling Multiple Temp Admin Jobs

Temp jobs are a great way to earn extra money and fill in the gaps between full-time or part-time positions. Many employers are creating temporary admin jobs instead of hiring full-time workers, so the number of people with multiple temporary assignments is likely to increase in the next few years. It can be difficult to juggle the schedules and responsibilities of multiple positions, but it may be necessary if you want to succeed in the administrative field. Use these tips to juggle admin temp jobs without adding too much stress to your life.

In a letter published on StarTribune.com, Mary Marso noted that temp jobs are a great way for workers to develop new skills. Unfortunately, taking on three or four temporary assignments at one time does create some potential problems for administrative assistants, secretaries, receptionists, and other administrative professionals. Scheduling is one of the biggest issues, as you might have to work for one client on certain days of the week and another client on the other. Each company might have different start and end times, which makes it more difficult to plan your routine. Make use of a wall calendar or weekly planner to track your schedule. Consult the planner every night so you know what time you need to wake up to get to work on time the next morning.

It is also important to give each assignment your full focus. Carolyn Kepcher, who is known as Donald Trump's sidekick on "The Apprentice," recommends keeping your jobs firmly separated. Do not respond to an email or telephone call from one client while working for another. Doing so could put one of your temp jobs at risk and hurt your reputation in the industry. Kepcher also recommends telling each client or employer that you are working multiple jobs. If clients know about your other assignments, they may be less likely to contact you during your hours at your other employment.

Juggling multiple admin jobs can also take a toll on your ability to balance your work life with your personal commitments. A few simple steps will help you manage all of your temp jobs without sacrificing time with your family and friends. If possible, plan your work schedule so you have at least one full day off each week. This will give you an opportunity to spend time with the people you love, take care of your home, and run errands. It's also wise to keep all of your work materials in one place so you don't have to waste time looking for anything before you leave for work each day.

Working multiple temp jobs gives you an opportunity to learn new skills while increasing your income and getting a feel for how different employers treat their employees. If you are going to make the best of multiple assignments, you must commit to planning ahead and staying organized. If you manage to juggle multiple temp jobs successfully, you could eventually have the opportunity to work for one of your favorite clients on a full-time basis.
