How to Earn Extra Money for the Holidays

Posted by in Career Advice

With the holidays near, many people are looking for ways to make some extra money in addition to their regular source of income. Though I currently have two side jobs, I like to explore new options. Since many people are struggling to find employment in this economy, it's important to tap into other resources when job hunting.

This site offers some great ideas for thinking outside the box, such as selling hand-made goods on Etsy or participating in online surveys. You can even start a blog about being a poor college student or recent graduate and invite advertisers.

When we think about making extra money, we tend to think of part-time work at the mall or a restaurant. Sometimes these jobs are more difficult because the hours are unpredictable (or shifts are too long) over the holidays. These are a good option if you are unemployed or on college break. For those of you who currently have a job but need extra money, I recommend trying to work from home. You can sell used items on sites like eBay or Amazon or turn your hobby into income. Many people like to write, draw, or take pictures in their spare time. You can find an inexpensive class to hone your craft and then put it to good use. One example is taking a cake-decorating class at a local craft store and then working part-time at a bakery.

There are many options out there, especially this time of year. Have you found anything worthwhile yet? Let me know. For more information on jobs, search here.
