Making a career change isn't as scary as it sounds thanks to the flexibility of technology. Take online courses or go back to school for a few years, and then search through the millions of employers and the myriad of careers that are at your fingertips through online searches. If you exhibit any of the following red flags, consider making a change to another career path.

1. Lack of Focus

You might find yourself less able to focus on work if it has become seemingly mundane or not challenging. Perhaps you feel as if you reached the pinnacle of your personal growth at this position, and your supervisor doesn't have any new projects for you to accomplish. This could be a sign that a career change is in order to get your excitement level back.

2. Disappearing Motivation

Your motivation at work closely mirrors your excitement and passion for the job. When you feel no urgency whatsoever to get stuff done by the deadline and you just don't care, maybe you need a career change. You might even go so far as dreading your next workday because your motivation simply isn't there any more and you don't want to sit through another day of the same-old, same-old.

3. Physical Exhaustion

Despite boredom at work and a lack of effort on your part, you come home exhausted every day. If you just do the minimum amount of work to get by, you shouldn't feel tired out from the daily grind. A career change can spice things up a bit and rejuvenate your life, so don't let physical problems get in the way of your job search or your home life.

4. Your Loved Ones Notice

When your loved ones notice an attitude change due to pessimism at work, perhaps you need to examine your professional life and consider a new career. No amount of financial security and working because you have to is worth alienating your friends, family, children or partner. Your personal relationships shouldn't have to suffer because of your career.

5. You Hunt for Jobs on the Clock

Consider how you spend your time at your current job. If you hunt for a job more than actually getting stuff done for your supervisor, you're wasting the company dime. You may not even get a good reference from your current employer if you get caught.

6. Hopelessness

It's time for a career change when you see nothing hopeful about your current job situation. Do you treat everyone at your office with respect, or do you just not care what they think of you? If your attitude deteriorates to a completely hopeless one and you don't care about the consequences, try to maintain some positivity so you can move on graciously.

7. Envy

Instead of congratulating your best friend at work on his promotion, you find yourself extremely jealous. This feeling might occur when you believe you should make a career move on your own, so go out and find a vocation that fulfills your passions and dreams.

A career change doesn't have to be drastic or sudden, but these red flags may serve as a warning. Take deliberate action to minimize any damage that may occur to your professional life or your finances.
