The Top 5 Most Addictive, Time Wasting Apps Ever

Posted by in Career Advice

We all need a break sometimes, but watch out for these addictive, time-waster apps.

You know how it goes, you are spending hours on a project or your job search and you just need a little break. Maybe check Facebook, play a little Solitaire until it is lunchtime. We've all been there.

But, if you have an iPod Touch, iPhone or iPad, here are some crazy, addictive apps that will suck you in and cause you to waste a ton of time. So, check them out if you have some time to kill. Or better yet, avoid them if you want to be productive for the remainder of the decade.

Here are my top 5 Time Wasting Apps:

Pocket Frogs – This is an easy going game that lets you collect and breed specialty frogs. They take awhile to go from an egg to a full grown frog, but in the meantime, you can enter your pets into races, help them eat flies in the pond and build elaborate habitats. There is always a new breed of frog to discover, so the game is sort of like Pokemon for grownups.

Farmville – Yes, there is an app for that. Now, aspiring farmers don't have to visit Facebook to harvest their crops or build their barns. But don't worry, they still can post extra fuel and other annoying goodies to their Facebook feeds.

Angry Birds – This game is so popular and highly rated, I immediately had to check it out. I am not sure what the appeal is. The game has a group of angry birds who have a beef with a group of pigs who stole their eggs. They need your help to aim and pull the slingshot in order to dive bomb the pig in retaliation. I didn't have much fun playing it, although, the graphic are great and the birds are super cute.

The Smurfs – This game is a huge hit for people who grew up loving the cute blue Smurfs. The game allows you to farm for smurf berries and build your own Smurf Village. I didn't play it long enough to really get the complete experience, but it seems like it would be as addictive as Farmville.

Fruit Ninja – This game is fast and furious. If you have ever wanted to vent some frustration on some fruit using only a ninja sword; then this game is for you. The objective of the game is to slice the fruit in the air without slicing any bombs. Using your finger on the touchscreen, you can slice and dice with realistic sound effects and mess. I loved the Zen mode of the game where there were no bombs, just lots of smashed up fruit. When I played it, I felt like a cross between Jim Belushi's Samurai character and Gallagher.

It was tough picking just 5, because there are so many others. The Adult Swim games all deserve a mention. With clever games like Amateur Surgeon, 5 Minutes to Kill Yourself and Robot Unicorn Attack, they have made wasting time an art form.

What do you think about this list? Are their other Apps that you think should have made the top 5? Let me know in the comments.
