Posted by in Career Advice

If you're interested in getting into the wind energy job sector of today's utilities industry, here's some news you might find encouraging.

A new report released by the Environmental Groups and Trade Unions noted that AC Wind plans to build between 80 and 200 wind turbines off the coast of Ocean City, Md. This could create more than 2,000 jobs.

Nordic Windpower USA, a California-based wind turbine technology developer and manufacturer will soon relocate its operations to Kansas City in the spring of 2011. Nordic plans to hire over 200 workers and invest about $126 million in the area. The company is currently headquartered in California, a state with an anti-business climate and one of the highest tax rates in the U.S. Nordic aims to build its plant at the KCI Intermodal Business Centre.

Invenergy Wind will soon complete construction of a 200-megawatt plant in Gratiot County. The company noted that the 30,000-acre wind plant will power more than 50,000 Michigan homes once it goes online. Over 150 skilled construction workers will help build the plant, which will consist of 125 1.6-MW GE turbines.

Then there's the recently completed 201-megawatt Nobles Wind Farm in southeastern Minnesota, which created approximately 200 construction jobs, 13 long-term operation and maintenance jobs and 400 manufacturing jobs.

Finally, if you're in Utah looking for work in the solar or wind utilities sector, the Southwest Applied Technology College in Cedar City has teamed up with the Department of Workforce Services and First Wind in Milford to offer an energy academy. The program offers qualifying displaced workers the opportunity to acquire job skills in solar and wind energy.
