  • The Ralph O'Connor Sustainable Energy Institute (ROSEI) at the Johns Hopkins University (JHU) is seeking faculty candidates in engineering, at all levels with research interests that support societal level scale-up of sustainable energy for full electrification. Topic areas of interest include: power systems, e.g., power system stability, analysis, electronics, integration of renewables, resilience, cyberinfrastructure, controls, microgrids; energy infrastructure, e.g, on and offshore wind towers and blades, transmission structures, solar supports, structural health monitoring and inspection, and supply chains; wind energy, e.g. fluid-structure interaction, wind farm modeling and controls, infrastructure, wind turbine design and control; building energy efficiency: heating and cooling technology, novel energy generation or storage, distributed energy, controls, novel construction materials/systems having in mind e.g., at-scale implementation of novel sustainable materials for low-carbon or carbon-negative construction of buildings, or novel design systems/methods (circularity, deconstruction, etc.); sustainable energy at scale, e.g. solar energy at scale, storage at scale, novel mechanical and thermal energy harvesting at scale; and any other enabling research related to sustainable energy scale-up, e.g., uncertainty quantification, system reliability and resilience, controls, LCA, TEA, optimization and decision-making in the energy context.

    Successful candidates will join ROSEI, a newly endowed university-wide institute with 12 core and over 40 affiliated faculty (~~~). This position provides an opportunity to develop a world-class program in sustainable energy as part of this new Institute. The position is one of several faculty to be hired into the Whiting School of Engineering by ROSEI. Academic appointment will be made in an appropriate department, either Electrical and Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Civil and Systems Engineering for this search.
