Ford's Research and Advanced Engineering team takes new ideas from theory to reality. This team requests EST hours and we prefer candidates able to work onsite from our Dearborn, MI office.

Troubleshooting PM & PN measurement instruments in chassis dynamometer (and engine dynamometer) facilities
Understand differences and similarities of the various PM & PN measurement instruments, including particle detection technology, strengths & weaknesses of the methods, and sources of error & uncertainty in PM measurements
Collaborate with engine and aftertreatment test engineers in development and testing of methods to reduce PM emissions, including engine controls and gasoline particulate filters (GPF)
Interact with APTL & ELD dynamometer facilities, providing expert knowledge in the operation of PM/PN instruments and the interpretation of PM emissions results
Develop experiments to evaluate new technologies in PM detection instruments or sensors
Technical support of engineering fire fights for high PM during program delivery or post-production evaluations (e.g., IUVP/IUCP)
You'll have...
Minimum B.S. in Physical Sciences or Engineering (Chemistry, Physics, or Chemical Engineering)
5 - 10 years of experience in the combustion engine emissions field
Experience with chassis or engine dynamometer facilities (VERL or APTL) and an understanding of their operations with respect to vehicle drive cycles and data collection from the various emissions instruments
Sound technical knowledge of combustion-based PM measurement methods
Familiarity with the complex physical & chemical characteristics of combustion-based particulate
Even better, you may have...
5+ years of experience with soot and particulate analysis
5+ years demonstrating ability to analyze, plan, and solve sophisticated system problems as they relate to engines and emissions.
You may not check every box, or your experience may look a little different from what we've outlined, but if you think you can bring value to Ford Motor Company, we encourage you to apply!
