Summary:
An Advanced Practice Provider (APP) functions as part of the interdisciplinary healthcare team in accordance with privileges approved by the credentialing committee to provide high-quality, cost-effective care to patients within the APPs scope of practice in collaboration with a supervising physician. The APP reflects the mission, vision, and values of the organization, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and other regulatory and accreditation standards.
Responsibilities:
Clinical
Works closely with the orthopedic team to provide a combination of pediatric subspecialty inpatient and outpatient services.
In conjunction with the attending pediatric orthopaedists, develops and oversees preoperative patient optimization plans, hospital care including post-surgical care, and outpatient postoperative follow-up.
Facilitates and documents the care of post-surgical inpatients and communicates daily with other providers who are co-managing patients. Actively incorporates evidence-based hospital initiatives to improve patient care.
Evaluates daily consults on the inpatient service and Emergency Department. Obtains relevant health and medical history, a thorough physical assessment, reviews and interprets pertinent diagnostic tests/results and develops appropriate differential diagnoses. Works closely with the orthopedic team daily regarding all inpatient evaluations and treatment plans. Executes the treatment plans with graduated independence pending commensurate experience and capabilities. This may include procedures such as joint aspirations, injections, fracture reduction, splinting/casting, obtaining/recommending additional consults based on differential diagnoses, prescribing/ordering of appropriate evidence-based pharmacological agents consistent with departmental guidelines and privileging, and schedules appropriate follow-up management.
May assist in surgery with positioning, suturing, and functioning as a first assistant to an attending pediatric orthopaedist.
In the outpatient setting, provides care for basic post-surgical needs, assists in fracture care which may include fracture reductions, wound care, ordering and interpreting radiographs. Maintains clear comprehensive yet concise records of all aspects of patient care.
Other
Maintains essential knowledge of general pediatric musculoskeletal disease and pathologic processes. Maintains extensive knowledge of their specialty literature including awareness of developing areas. Consistently derives correct diagnoses through synthesis of clinical data and proper selection and interpretation of diagnostic studies. Develops comprehensive differential diagnoses for patients. Revises the plan of care to meet the changing needs of the patient. Prioritizes work and assists staff to provide prompt and efficient client flow.
Consistently maintains high productivity according to identified standards. Leads/participates in projects to improve productivity. Appropriately performs medical procedures consistent with departmental guidelines, privileging, and clinical roles/responsibilities.

Licensure/Certification Requirements:
Licensed as an Advanced Practice Provider (i.e., Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant, Certified Nurse Midwife) in the state of North Carolina. Board certification if required by the Department. DEA.
Management prefers NP candidates to have background in Pediatric or Family Medicine, with either acute care training or RN first assist training.
