    Summary:

    The Associate Director, Major Gifts is responsible for developing and implementing fundraising plans to secure gifts of $50,000 and above. This position serves as key member of the major gifts fundraising team at Rush. The Associate Director is responsible for building a major gift pipeline across a variety of clinical areas, engaging physician partners to facilitate referrals, and building and soliciting a portfolio of donors. This position reports to the Director of Major Gifts and works closely and collaboratively with other major gifts officers, the prospect management team, stewardship team and the annual giving team. The individual who holds this position exemplifies the Rush mission, vision and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures.

    Responsibilities:

    1. Identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit and steward a portfolio of major giving prospects

    2. Become a content expert in a variety of clinical areas and build a working knowledge of funding priorities across the Medical Center.

    3. Build a major gift pipeline by developing strong working relationships with physicians and colleagues.

    4. Develop targeted multi-step strategies to engage new patients that have emerged through the wealth-screening process, through physician referrals and the annual giving program.

    5. Build a portfolio of grateful patient prospects and identify their philanthropic interests at Rush. Develop, test and carry out appropriate cultivation and solicitation strategies to secure major gifts.

    6. Carry an individual fundraising goal in the $1M range within 3 years.

    7. Write letters, appeals, proposals/solicitations and other communications as needed and maintain timely and accurate reports and information.

    8. Track and evaluate effectiveness of strategies to generate major gift donors; contribute to goal setting and prepare progress reports for Philanthropy colleagues and leadership.

    Required Job Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's Degree.

    • Five or more years of increasingly responsible positions in development or a related field, preferably in a health care or higher education setting.

    • Willingness to work evenings and weekends, as necessary.

    • Professional demeanor.

    • Ability to articulate Rush's mission and the campaign vision to a variety of constituencies with poise and diplomacy.

    • Be a self-starter with an ability to multi-task, prioritize and work independently.

    • Excellent oral and written communication, analytic, and interpersonal skills. Proven track record developing proposals and fundraising plans, as well as generating creative and innovative fundraising strategies.

    • Collaborative team member who brings an entrepreneurial approach to pipeline development.

    • Face-to-face cultivation/solicitation experience.

    • Initiative, sound judgment, and an ability to work collaboratively to move programs and prospects forward.

    • Demonstrated problem-solving ability in complex and ambiguous situations.

    • Proven success in building relationships with key volunteers, administrative colleagues and donors, coupled with demonstrated consensus-building skills.

    • Ability to build close working relations with clinical teams and research faculty.

    • Interest in and sensitivity to the special needs of patients and their families.

    • Familiar with the guidelines established by HIPAA.
