    The Opportunity:

    The US Business represents 60% of company earnings and is viewed as a primary growth engine for MetLife. This role will support the US Group Benefits Business, as the Development Leader for the Group Dental business. This role will be responsible for the team executing on multiple technology initiatives focused on Provider and Member services, executing on an aggressive technology investment initiative that has a resulted in significant increase in the Dental Portfolio spend. The role will partner with the Dental Product Manage to deliver on our highest priorities while working in a new agile way.

    The AVP Engineering Leader will have the responsibility to develop and upskill our engineering talent as the product portfolio expands. This role will be critical in shifting the culture to be more engineering focused, building the talent in house and modernizing our technology through DevSecOps capabilities using agile delivery model.

    This role leads approximately six direct reports and a team of 20 full time employees and approximately 120 full time contractors.

    How You'll Help Us Build a Confident Future (Key Responsibilities):

    • Accountable for all engineering aspects, from idea to delivery, of Group Dental initiatives.

    • Leads teams in the development and maintenance of an E2E IT solution that support the Group Dental business. Leading Solution Architecture.

    • Influences business with emerging technology trends and capabilities that align to Product portfolio. Deep understanding of the business' way of working to solve challenges by leveraging technology. Leads and organizes demos of up and coming technologies that simplify ways of working.

    • Strategic planning and Technology Roadmap for Group Dental business

    • Creates partnerships - builds trusted relationships and collaborates across diverse and multi-functional IT, vendor & US Business teams to successfully drive business objectives.

    • Creation and implementation of technology roadmap and management of technical debt for the product.

    • Leads product software delivery through continuous focus on software development and maintenance metrics and KPIs.

    • Advocates user centric design and agile development life cycle.

    • Enables productivity by fostering cross-team communication, empowerment, and accountability.

    • Partners with Audit, Application Security and Architecture to plan through potential risks associated with product and/or processes.

    • Responsible for IT Vendor relationships and contracts. Leads negotiations with vendors for best in class pricing, and benchmarks costs.

    • Ensures the team has the technical competencies to meet the product capability needs aligned to the customer.

    • Full people management responsibility for direct product team including hiring, firing, promotions, performance, career and compensation management, and training & development.

    • Matrix management responsibility for cross functional team members aligned to product team that includes performance management.

    • Develops and manages the product budget including maintenance, infrastructure, and annual discretionary portfolio of projects with Product Manager.

    What You Need to Succeed (Required Qualifications):

    • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science,Computer/Electrical engineeringor related field

    • Strong Communication Skills coupled with the ability to convert complex Technical/Technology concepts into contextual "stories" for Business stakeholders and Executive leadership to relate to.

    • 5+ years of leadership experience as a leader of agile or lean software development, architecture and platform engineering teams

    • 10+ years of experience in development with java, .net or mainframe technologies.

    • Experience in manage effective teams through development opportunities, recognition and feedback for both onshore and offshore teams.

    • Proven track record of delivering successful world-class, large-scale, performance-critical multimillion-dollar software projects on time, on budget and with quality and security, in support of large, growing, established businesses, as well as new businesses.

    • Experience in an agile/iterative, life cycle development processes with direct Business Owner partnership.

    • Experience delivering in a continuous cycle, solutions and enhancements, with demonstrated success rapidly building, releasing and updating service-based software with demanding service level agreements.

    • Cross functional leadership: organize, motivate and lead those outside of the team.

    Preferred:

    • Understanding on group insurance domain and various technology vendors and their offering.

    • Experience with Mainframes is a plus
