    PeaceHealth is seeking a Certified First Assistant for our Operating Room for a 0.6 FTE, Day Shift position . The general salary range for this job opening at PeaceHealth is $39.24 - $58.86. The actual hiring rate is dependent upon several factors, including but not limited to, the job/position responsibilities, location, terms of the applicable collective bargaining agreement, education, training, work experience, seniority, work performance, etc.

    Job Summary

    Responsible for practicing in collaboration with and at the direction of the surgeon during the intraoperative phase of the perioperative experience. Collaborates during surgery with the surgeon and the healthcare team in performing a safe operation with optimal outcomes for the patient.

    Essential Functions

    • Accumulates the appropriate surgical armamentarium.

    • Positions the patient on the operating room table.

    • Preps patient for surgical procedures (shave, catheterize, drape, etc.).

    • Provides exposure for the surgical procedure.

    • Provides hemostasis by suction, cauterization, clamping, suturing or ligation.

    • Administers local anesthesia as directed by the surgeon.

    • Places dressing.

    • Maintains accurate, legible and confidential records. Completes documentation pertinent to patient medical record.

    • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Education

    • Completion of Surgical Technology Accredited program required

    • Completion of Certified First Assist Accredited program required

    • Required: Completion of a mentored internship with a minimum of 120 hours of clinical experience demonstrating the ability to function as a CFA

    Experience

    • Minimum of 1 year Required: Demonstrated training and minimum of one year of experience and current competence in performing CFA tasks required

    Credentials

    • Required: Certified First Assistant

    • Required: Certified Surgical Technologist (CST)

    • Required: Basic Life Support (BLS)

    Skills

    • Well organized, detail oriented and self-motivated. (Required)

    • Ability to coordinate activities and work collaboratively with others. (Required)

    • Ability to execute detailed procedures with accuracy and precision. (Required)

    • Basic computer/keyboarding skills including MS Office applications. (Required)

    • Understanding of operating room protocols. (Required)

    Department / Location Specific Notes

    PHMC

    • Assists with the application of casts or immobilizing devices.

    • Insertion and removal of trocars.

    • Performs as a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) as needed, including technical duties of passing of instruments for operative procedures, preparation and maintenance of the surgical sterile field and surgical instrumentation.

    Working Conditions

    Lifting

    • Patient handling no greater than 35 lbs. without the use of assistive equipment and/or devices (NIOSH).

    • Ability to move around area with occasional sitting.

    • Ability to move around area with occasional sitting.

    • Frequent Manual Dexterity and Tactile Sensitivity.

    • Frequent push/ pull/ carry/ stoop/ bend/ reach.

    • Occasional Kneeling.

    Environmental Conditions

    • Exposure to biohazard, body fluids and airborne particles.

    • Time spent on site in medical/hospital setting.

    Mental/Visual

    • Vision and hearing required within normal limits (glasses, contacts, hearing aids permitted).

    • Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information.
