Controller

Description

Robert Half is partnering with a great client in the greater Hattiesburg area that is searching for a Controller to join their team! This role will manage all the accounting operations for this office location. The ideal candidate will have 5-8 years of full cycle accounting experience, a bachelor's degree in Accounting, and a CPA is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Leads the operations of the Finance Department which include accounts payable, accounts receivable, and bank, loan, and credit card reconciliations.

• Works closely with the Customer Service team to oversee financial activities, including new accounts set-up, customer billing, cost controls, and maximizing profitability. Ensures that reported revenue is accurate and timely billed to customers.

• Being a team player, lead internal team meetings to provide periodic business updates, and financial reviews.

• Maintains a documented system of accounting policies, procedures, and records; implements a system of controls over accounting transactions to minimize risk.

• Recommends improvements to procedural, operational, and financial controls.

• Oversee the production of periodic financial reports; ensures that the reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles.

• Produces the annual budget and forecasts; reports significant budget differences to management.

• Manages the flow of cash and financial instruments.

• Reviews collection reports to determine the status and outstanding amounts of collections; works to mediate and refers delinquent accounts to appropriate agencies or attorneys.

• Provides financial analysis and decision making, with emphasis on capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations.

• Provides on-the-job training and guidance as needed.

• Works with external auditors and provides needed information for the annual audit.

• Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal government laws and requirements.

• Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

• Thorough understanding of the laws, regulations, and policies that govern the financial and banking industry.

• Ability to use sound judgment to make decisions in line with company goals.

• Ability to work independently.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Excellent organizational and time management skills.

• Proficient in accounting software, QuickBooks experience required.

• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite excel, QuickBooks, or similar software and SQL or WMS experience preferred.

Education and Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting

• 8 years or more of related experience required.

• Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accountant designation preferred.
