    Description:

    Provides direct patient care in the emergency room setting under the medical direction of the on-duty ED physician. He/She coordinates care with other disciplines, consults with the family or significant others and collaborates with the physician on the patient's behalf. Able to triage safely, rapidly, and accurately, every patient that enters the emergency care setting. Able to respond quickly and accurately to changes in patient condition or response to treatment.

    QUALIFICATIONS: Current Certification as a Paramedic in the State of Iowa. Critical Care Paramedic endorsement required within 6 months of hire. Must be able to read, write and follow written and oral instructions in English. Maintains BCLS certification and attains ACLS, PHTLS or ATLS, and PALS within 1 year of hire. NRP strongly encouraged. Adult and Child Mandatory Reporter abuse training within 3 months of hire.

    EDUCATION: Graduate of an accredited school of Emergency Medical Services.

    EXPERIENCE:

    Minimum 2 years of experience as a Paramedic in Pre-hospital or hospital environment.

    Basic computer knowledge and experience encouraged.

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

    Demonstrates understanding of EMTALA and adheres to those laws.

    Triages, prioritizes, and anticipates patients' needs. Develops a plan of care.

    Provides ongoing evaluation, altering the plan of care as indicated. Documents findings and interventions within the EMR.

    Demonstrates competence in the clinical practice area.
