  • University of Pittsburgh Physicians, Department of Anesthesiology is hiring for our CRNA Resource (Pool). Our Resource CRNAs will provide anesthesia services to all UPP facilities within Allegheny County adjusting their role/ assignment to each facility daily based upon fluctuating patient care needs, patient acuity and staffing needs. Our CRNA Resource (Pool) will be assigned to a site monthly by Sr. CRNA Director and maintains flexibility with daily assignments based upon system operational staffing needs.

    Purpose:

    The CRNA provides anesthetic care for all types of patients in cooperation with the supervising or medically directing physician and under the standards of the Department of Anesthesiology and in accordance with hospital policies and procedures. The CRNA administers anesthesia to patients rendering them insensitive to pain during surgery, monitors the patient's physical reaction to sedatives, analgesics, and anesthetic agents and informs the anesthesiologist of any adverse condition that potentially threatens the safety or care of the patient.

    Responsibilities:

    • Assists with the teaching and evaluation of newly-hired CRNAs, GRNAs, and SRNAs in the clinical area.

    • Performs according to established policies, procedures, and regulatory standards. Review appropriate documentation for informed consent and identify appropriate surgical site with operating room staff and surgeon in accordance with departmental and regulatory compliance standards. Participates in the Quality Improvement (QI) process through case documentation, incident reporting, evaluation, education, and implementation of the QI plan.

    • Administers anesthesia and anesthesia-related care in four general categories: (1) pre-anesthetic preparation and evaluation; (2) anesthesia induction, maintenance, and emergence, (3) post-anesthesia care, and (4) peri-anesthesia clinical support functions.

    • Assumes responsibility and is accountable for controlled substances according to department and hospital policy and State and federal guidelines.

    • Assigned to a site monthly by Sr. CRNA Director and maintains flexibility with daily assignments based upon system operational staffing needs.

    • Works with assigned CRNA Clinical Director for monthly scheduling needs.

    • Functions in a CRNA supervision model delivering care under the supervision of proceduralist/surgeon.

    • Demonstrates knowledge and proficiency with variable anesthesia related equipment at each facility.

    • Demonstrates knowledge and accountability for department policies and procedures at each facility.

    • Acts as a liaison between all UPP sites to ensure efficiency and standardization of best practices.

    • Actively seeks and recognizes opportunities to transform and augment efficient workflow.

    • Demonstrates knowledge of principles of growth and development and the skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age/acuity of the patient, neonate through geriatric.

    • Maintains clinical competency in all anesthetizing locations including offsite and ambulatory surgery centers.

    • Maintains active credentials at UPP facilities within Allegheny County

    • Assists with the teaching and evaluation of newly hired CRNAs, GRNAs, and functions as a clinical preceptor to SRNAs in the perioperative setting.

    • Assumes responsibility and is accountable for controlled substances according to department and hospital policy and State and federal guidelines.

    • Records all pertinent events taking place during the induction of, maintenance of and emergence from anesthesia, including the dosage and duration of all anesthetic agents, other drugs, intravenous fluids, and blood/blood components on all patient that have received anesthesia care and ensures completion of documentation.

    • *Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors.

    • *Performs other duties as assigned.

    Graduate of an accredited nurse anesthesia education program required. Knowledgeable regarding controlled substance policies in accordance with Federal and State laws required. Master's degree preferred.This position is dependent upon successful attainment and maintenance of hospital privileges, if applicable to the Business Unit practice. Minimum 1-year CRNA experience for eligibility.

    Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

    Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania required. Board Certified, Recertified or eligible by the Council on Certification of Nurse Anesthetists required. Current AHA-approved CPR certification required. AHA-approved ACLS/PALS certifications as required by institution of employ upon hire. CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hireAct 33, 34, and 73 clearances required.

    • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)

    • Basic Life Support (BLS)

    • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

    • Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA)

    • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)

    • Registered Nurse (RN)

    • Act 33 with renewal

    • Act 34 with renewal

    • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
