  • The University of Virginia Department of Pediatrics invite applications for Vice Chair for Education. Academic Pediatricians at the rank of Associate or Full Professor are encouraged to apply.

    The Vice Chair for Education is expected to

    • Steward optimal undergraduate and graduate medical education within the Department of Pediatrics

    • Support the clerkship, residency and fellowship program directors in their roles

    • Oversee all education related programs and scholarly activities (including running the Birdsong conference)

    • Partner with Education Manager, and associated Program Managers to remove barriers for programmatic success

    • Chair/manage clinical competency committee for the residency program (with administrative support)

    • Be responsible for overseeing morning report in conjunction with the residency program director for residents

    • Negotiate residency slots with leadership

    • Oversee fellowship slot allocations

    • Convene and chair quarterly meetings with the program directors, coordinators and General Pediatrics leads (ACGME requirement)

    • Communicate GME/ACGME updates to necessary parties

    • Lead the Grand Round Committee

    Your base salary will be determined annually according to the Department of Pediatric Faculty Compensation Plan. In addition to the base salary, you will receive an additional administrative supplement and 20% protected time for as long as you serve in the role of Associate Chair. Should you discontinue serving in the capacity as Associate Chair; the administrative supplement will no longer be paid, as of the next pay period.

    Annually, the Chair and the Associate Chair for Education will agree on 2-4 metrics, achievement of which will make you eligible for incentive compensation; these goals may be assigned as part of the Department Annual Review with the Dean's Office. You will continue to be eligible for clinical and academic incentive compensation plans in place in the Department of Pediatrics.

    The position is open to individuals with M.D. or D. O. degrees and candidates must be eligible for appointment to the University of Virginia faculty.
