  • What You Will Do

    Interested in studying the laboratory science and engineering operational capabilities and their dynamics?

    The Stockpile and Enterprise Analytics Office (SEA-Office) in the Deputy Directorate for Weapons (DDW) is seeking highly motivated candidates for a postdoctoral research associate position to conduct innovative data science and tool development to model and evaluate programs plan/operation/performance. The research objective is to provide analytical capabilities for planning and decision-making processes. The selected candidate will be part of a multi-disciplinary team actively engaging in a broad range of modeling and analysis efforts in cost, workforce, infrastructure, and equipment.

    The candidate will engage in one or more of the following areas

    • Collect, process, and manage data on laboratory and national program plans in cost, workforce, and infrastructure.

    • Develop frameworks and models to represent programs or organizations with constitutive relationships representing dependencies within these systems.

    • Apply operations research and systems engineering techniques to describe, analyze and project plans and study trade-space and scenarios.

    This position involves extensive data management, use of various data analysis tools, while requiring attention to detail and the ability to work and communicate effectively with individuals at various levels in the organization as well with external establishments.

    What You Need

    Minimum Job Requirements:

    • Knowledge of or ability to learn and apply programming languages or commercial software, such as Python, Java, SQL, Primavera, and MicroStrategy

    • Knowledge of systems modeling and analysis, optimization techniques, statistical methods, or related computational areas

    • Demonstrated excellent writing and communication skills in a diverse team environment

    • Ability to obtain a DOE Q clearance, which typically requires a U.S. citizenship.

    Education/Experience : Candidates must have received a Ph.D. within the last five years in a STEM or related field or will have completed all Ph.D. requirements by commencement of appointment.

    Desired Qualifications:

    • Experience with mathematical and computational techniques, such as Monte Carlo, optimization studies, machine learning, complex system analyses, etc.

    • Familiarity with LANL missions and capabilities and the U.S. nuclear security enterprise

    • Knowledge of approaches to model complex systems including risk, uncertainty and sensitivity analysis

    • Experience conducting data science research as a part of a multidisciplinary team

    Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

    Salary: Competitive salaries are based on the date the PhD degree requirements were completed or the degree was awarded. Starting salary for a new graduate is currently $94,500. For more information go to Postdoc Program website at ~~~ .

    Additional Details

    Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 (~~~) .     Q Clearance: Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

    *Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 (~~~) for additional information.

    New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
