BAE Systems FAST Labs leads the way with opportunities for tackling the Defense and Intelligence Communities hardest problems with innovative software and hardware solutions. FAST Labs, the research arm of BAE Systems Electronic Systems, is seeking a Senior Scientist to join the R3 device Materials and Manufacturing (M&M) team. Ideal candidates are recent graduates of a Master's or PhD program, highly motivated and with experience in some of the following areas: multiphysics finite element modeling (e.g., piezoelectric, pyroelectric, thermomechanical, magneto-mechanical), hands-on experience with semiconductor microfabrication and metrology, microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) sensors. A strong background in physics and ferroic materials (ferroelectric and ferromagnetic) is preferred. The Multiphysics Device Scientist will be expected to support both program execution and proposal work to bring in new business.
Support the development of novel multiphysics devices with emphasis on multi-physics modeling, microfabrication process development, metrology and related material studies.
Work with Principal Investigators to advance overall technical skills and develop R&D expertise in the forefront of Advanced Microelectronics
Lead exploratory R&D programs
Lead, plan, and execute project sub-tasks
Contribute to Research Proposal, White Paper, IP Disclosure, and Publication writing
Effectively communicate with clear, concise messaging to teams and leadership
Willingness to learn and apply new skills required to accomplish tasking
Required Education, Experience, & Skills
Bachelor s with foundation in physics, engineering, materials science or similar field
3-5 years work experience in some of the fields related to multiphysics finite element modeling, MEMS, and ferroic materials
Familiar with microfabrication process and multi-physics modeling
Ability to obtain and maintain DoD Secret Clearance
Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
MS or PhD. in Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, or Material Science and Engineering, or similar field
Hands on experience with microfabrication processes (e.g. photolithography, dry and wet etching, thin film processing, grinding and polishing, metrology)
Working experience with multi-physics modeling tools/applications (e.g., COMSOL, ANSYS Mechanical, HFSS simulations involving piezoelectric, ferroelectric, pyroelectric, ferromagnetic and ferrimagnetic materials)
Self-motivated and curious
Experience contributing to proposal writing, bidding and winning new business
Ability to coordinate technical project performance with program leadership
Demonstrated ability to reach across disparate technical domains to create novel solutions
External communications experience (published papers, conference presentations)
Strong written and verbal communication skills with experience presenting technical research to large audiences
Active DoD Secret clearance
Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $92290 - $156860
Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
