Summary:

The D epartment of Medicine, Division of Digestive Diseases and Nutrition is currently recruiting for a Lead Advanced Practice Provider of Gastroenterology (GI) to join their team. This role will function in both the inpatient and outpatient settings and will provide leadership and oversight for APPs across all GI subspecialties and locations. The GI APP team is currently comprised of 12 APP's in the following gastroenterology subspecialties: general, endobariatric, inflammatory bowel disease, and interventional. The practice locations include Rush main campus, Rush Oak Brook, Rush Oak Park, and Rush South Loop.

The Division Digestive Diseases and Nutrition's Section of Gastroenterology is part of the Digestive Diseases Service Line which integrates clinical care, teaching, and research efforts to advance the subspecialty. The gastroenterology APP team are part of an integrated team of faculty, clinicians, and researchers who also collaborate with allergy/immunology (GI/adverse reactions to food clinic), colorectal surgery and oncology (a comprehensive clinic for gastrointestinal cancers), bariatric surgery, ENT, pathology, and neurology. Additionally, our training program continues to provide the GI subspecialty with exceptionally trained physicians. The program accepts 4 general GI fellows in training per class and includes an advanced therapeutic and inflammatory bowel disease training program (two 4th year fellows per year - one for each advanced fellowship program).

Digestive Diseases clinical care is rendered across multiple hospitals and locations within our system (Rush University Medical Center, Rush Oak Brook, Rush Oak Park Hospital, and other off-site locations including south loop). There are also several free-standing clinical sites with plans to expand our "footprint" with continued future development. *Previous Advanced Practice Provider experience required. APRN candidates for this role must be acute care certified.

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) is a licensed physician assistant (PA) or advanced practice nurse (APN) who functions as a member of the health care team to provide high quality, comprehensive acute and/or routine medical/surgical care of Rush University Medical Center patients within the scope of practice granted in accordance with the RUMC medical staff bylaws. The APP will promote collaboration between multiple disciplines to ensure cost effective and quality patient care. The individual who holds this position will exemplify the Rush mission, vision and values and act in accordance with the policies, procedures, guidelines of Rush, including the Rush University Medical Group Customer Service standards. Successful candidates will also meet all other state and federal regulatory practice and accreditation standards. Responsibilities:

Clinical

• Completes and documents an accurate history and physical examination of patients.

• Conducts comprehensive or episodic health assessments and develops patient care plans

• Orders and interprets tests, treatments, and therapies within the scope of practice

• Prescribes medications, including controlled substances to the extent delegated including non-pharmacologic treatment modalities

• Orders, interprets, and performs laboratory and other diagnostic tests and procedures.

• Provides clear, concise, and accurate information in the electronic medical record.

• Initiate and perform consultations in accordance with Rush rules and regulations

• Make appropriate referrals to other health care professionals and/or agencies

• Provides direct patient care in assigned areas, which may be in a hospital or ambulatory setting.

Professional

• Works collaboratively with his/her collaborating/supervising physician, department, and other members of the healthcare team in an effective and comprehensive manner.

• Acts as an advocate for patients, families, coworkers, and the physician assistant profession

• Participates in all required provider activities as outlined in the RUMC Medical Staff Bylaws.

• Integrates evidence based knowledge and clinical expertise in decision making

• Demonstrates competency in all medical and surgical procedures and skill considered essential in their area of practice

• Maintains board certification, state licensure, and continuing medical education as outlined by hospital, state, and federal policy.

• Serves as a leader of the healthcare team to provide integrated delivery of patient care services

• Actively participates in ongoing and systematic quality improvement efforts which focus on patient care delivery and supports processes that provide optimal patient outcomes.

• Develops and leads implementation of department goals by collaborating with department staff, students, and physicians.

• Demonstrates an understanding of patient documentation, compliance, and billing best practices.

Other information:

Required Job Qualifications

• Current State of Illinois Physician Assistant Licensure.

• Degree from an ARC-PA (or predecessor) accredited PA Program.

• Current Certification from National Certification Commission for Physician Assistants (NCCPA).

• BLS certification.

• Current State of Illinois Registered Nurse (RN) and Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) Licensure.

• Current Nurse Practitioner Certification from a national certifying organization Graduate from an accredited nurse practitioner educational program.

• The APN's education and specialty board certification must correlate with the APP's job role, setting, responsibility and patient population.

• Master's or Doctorate degree in nursing.

• BLS certification.

• Demonstrates competency in all areas of APP practice including: medical knowledge, interpersonal and communication skills, patient care, professionalism, practice based learning and improvement, and systems based practice.

• Skill in preparing and maintaining electronic and paper medical records.

• Knowledge of current and emerging trends in technologies, techniques, issues, and approaches in area of expertise.

• Strong work ethic, interpersonal and communication skills.

• Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively with collaborating physician, department, and other members of the healthcare team in an effective and comprehensive manner.

Preferred Job Qualifications

• Master's degree.
