  • The Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia invites applications for an Open Rank General (non-tenure track) nine-month faculty position affiliated with the Leadership and Organizational Behavior Area, beginning in the summer of 2024. This position will focus on Leadership and Executive Career Development, as informed by adult learning, executive coaching and human and career development theories and practice. As such, applicants should generally have a PhD, EdD, DBA or other terminal degree in Organizational Behavior, Organizational Psychology, Human Development, Human Resources, Organizational Learning, or a related field. Darden has two locations in Charlottesville and the Metro DC area (Rosslyn.) Generally, instruction provided by this position will be delivered in Rosslyn.

    General faculty applicants are expected to bring something distinctive to the School, such as outstanding teaching, high visibility, and effectiveness in working with practicing managers and executives, or a particularly noteworthy research niche. General faculty will be on either a Teaching Track or a Practice Track. For the Teaching Track, primary responsibilities would be teaching and developing curricular materials. For the Practice Track, primary responsibilities would be teaching in both MBA and Executive Education programs and writing with a view to influencing practice.

    The LOB General Faculty will be expected to assume responsibilities for delivering required and elective professional development courses for executive and part time MBAs, including but not limited to professional advancement, leadership residencies, and related experiential courses. The courses will support both executive and part time MBAs in reaching their full professional potential by increasing awareness of and deepening their engagement in their own personal advancement. Other expectations for the LOB General Faculty will be to facilitate coaching experiences that are part of the Darden MBA curricula (e.g., supporting working professionals and part time students through their individual and organizational changes and personal challenges, inspiring students to reach their full potential.)

    Experience in experiential- or action-based teaching and learning is welcomed. Darden's high engagement learning environment depends on the active participation of both students and faculty. The LOB General Faculty will be expected to utilize Socratic, experiential- or action-based, student-centered methods, aligned with the rest of the school.
