    About the Job

    The Laboratory Department seeks a mid-shift Grossing Tech. In this role, under the supervision of a Pathologist, the Grossing Tech will assist in the gross processing of surgical specimens. Responsible for assuring proper maintenance of equipment, adequate supplies and cleanliness of the surgical pathology area. Also assists in teaching residents proper grossing technique.

    Schedule: Tuesday - Saturday

    What you will do

    • Assists in the preparation and performance of surgical specimen examinations including specimen receipt and accessioning; gross description and dissection. Performs decalcification techniques, special processing and photography, as indicated.

    • Recognizes and documents problems that may adversely affect test performance or the reporting of test results. Identifies, implements and documents appropriate corrective action or notifies the technical specialist, shift supervisor, manager or director.

    • Conducts and documents established quality control procedures. Evaluates the results of quality control testing and implements corrective action according to established protocols to ensure the accuracy and quality of patient testing.

    • Maintains equipment, orders supplies, and ensures the cleanliness of the grossing areas.

    • Authors and/or updates procedures for lab manuals as assigned; maintains records and documents required to manage the daily workflow and collects data for QC/QA monitors.

    Here is what you will need

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Associate Degree or directly related job experience

    Preferred:

    • Bachelor's Degree

    • 1-2 years of previous job-related experience

    • Details: Successful completion of Laboratory Science or Medical Technology Degree, OR education that includes 60 semester hours including at least 24 semester hours of science courses (6 hrs chemistry and 6 hrs biology plus 12 additional hours of chemistry, biology or medical technology in any combination.)
