    Overview

    Universal Engineering Sciences (UES) is a nationwide leader in Geotechnical Engineering, Construction Materials Testing and Inspection, Building Code Compliance, Environmental, Occupational Health & Safety, and Building Envelope services.

    Summary:

    The Solar Pile Driver plays a key role, responsible for a two to three-person crew by directing and performing fieldwork including pile installation, load testing and data collection for solar pile foundations. The ideal candidate is a reliable, trustworthy individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment where collaboration and autonomy are valued.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Ensures that all equipment used is functioning properly, maintained as required by company and/or manufacturer's policy and that all calibrated equipment is within its calibration cycle

    • Ensures that project testing requirements are met and compliant with project specifications, requirements, and company policies or procedures

    • Acts as crew chief for a two-three man crew, directing and performing pile installation, load testing and data collection for solar pile foundations.

    • Operates misc. equipment such as a pile driver, excavator, and forklift, and operation of water/steam pressure washers to wash the equipment.

    • Lawfully operates a commercial vehicle

    • Gets equipment together for that day's projects

    • Must be willing to travel within the United States 95% of the time. Locations may be local or out-of-town; travel may be overnight or up to several days, larger or longer projects will require longer out-of-town stays.

    • Completes daily time and labor reports in accordance with company policy

    • Turns in required paperwork daily

    • Regular attendance is required

    • Must be flexible to changing schedules and hours to support business needs; overnight and weekend schedules may be necessary to support business needs

    • Follows all company safety procedures and policies

    • Other duties may be assigned

    Required Qualifications:

    • Valid Florida Driver's License with an acceptable driving record (in accordance with our Driver's License and Motor Vehicle Record Check Criteria)

    • Ability to pass a background check screening in accordance with Florida's Jessica Lunsford Act (or equivalent state classification)

    • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent

    • At least 3 years of prior experience as a heavy equipment operator.

    • Ability to read & write, including interpreting documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals, as well as the ability to write routine reports and correspondence and speak effectively with colleagues, supervisors, and customers/clients

    • Mathematical skills sufficient to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals

    • Reasoning ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, and diagram form

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • 6 months previous experience in the solar industry.

    • OSHA 10HR safety certification.

    • Forklift or Lull certification.

    • CDL A

    • Previous experience in Geotechnical drilling and sampling.

    • Previous experience with utility scale solar project pile load testing.

    Physical Demands & Work Environment:

    • On average the workdays range from 7 - 12 hours. The operator's primary duty is that of operator and laborer with manual lifting and handling

    • The manual lifting is performed individually and in tandem, when necessary.

    • Pile Driver Operation: Vermeer PD5R operating experience preferred. Ability to move levers of hoisting equipment, position piles and hammers over piling. Ability to monitor gauges, dials, and controlling equipment operations. Ability to use levels, rules, plumb bobs framing squares, and surveying equipment to ensure materials are plumb, level and secure

    • The weights manually lifted range from 0 to 100+ lbs. Weights in the 5 - 75-lbs. range are lifted frequently (From 33% up to 66% of the task period) with a frequency range of 10 - 35 repetitions per hour

    • Weights in the range of 25 - 100+ lbs. with a range of 0 - 15 repetitions per hour, on average, with or without reasonable accommodation

    • Weights in the range of 25 - 100+ lbs. with a range of 5 - 15 repetitions per hour, on average, with or without reasonable accommodation

    • Depending upon the location of the support truck(s) and trailer in proximity to the drill rig, the equipment and materials are manually lifted and carried/moved, ranging from a 0 to 75+ feet, on average, in walking distance, with or without reasonable accommodation

    • In addition to manual lifting, body motions and movements include bending, twisting, reaching, stooping, pulling, kneeling, and pushing. These body motions/movements are performed continuously (on average from 66% up to 100% of the task period) to perform the physical manual work tasks involved with the drilling operations and related tasks

    • This job is in Florida, with exposure to intense sun, intense heat, humidity, rain, thunderstorms, and other adverse weather conditions

    • Job site conditions may or may not be accessible by vehicle, including wetlands, swamps, grasslands, and fields with uneven surfaces, sand, brush, and other natural and man-made obstacles

    • This job is primarily and regularly exposed to outside weather conditions and construction sites where the noise level is usually moderate to loud
