Responsibilities

JOB SUMMARY / PURPOSE

Prepares routine and STAT microscopic slides from all tissue removed during surgery procedures that will be interpreted

by the Pathologists in the diagnosis of disease.

ESSENTIAL KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Receives, accessions and Assists with grossing of tissue specimens from Surgery, doctor's offices, , Endoscopy, outside

hospitals, and contract accounts

1. Prepares STAT frozen sections for the Pathologist for immediate diagnosis while the patient is still on the operating

table so that the surgeon can determine the extent of the surgical procedure. Complete accessioning, cutting, and

staining within a 10 minute time limit on STAT frozen sections

1. Histologically processes tissue, embeds using appropriate orientation depending on type of tissue, sections per

protocol, stains, coverslips, reviews for completion, and Delivers finished slides to the Pathologist for interpretation

1. Performs multiple special stains necessary to assist in or confirm diagnosis

2. Processes autopsy material and Prepares teaching sets

3. Performs preventive maintenance and daily quality assurance on all equipment

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience

*High School Diploma/GED

*HT (ASCP) or HTL (ASCP) certification

*Experience in large volume hospital based Histology Lab

*Experience in operating all histology related equipment

Pay Range

$23.87 - $32.82 /hour
