    Description:

    Under the direction of a procedures coordinator, the ICA provides continuous observation of assigned patient(s) in the holding room and notifies modality personnel if patient(s) requires assistance, exhibits changes in behaviors or require(s) any other intervention. The ICA facilitates communication between modality staff and patients regarding imaging procedures.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    Performs supervision of inpatients and ED patients as they are delivered to the department prior to imaging. Remains with and observes the assigned patient at all times under direct observation. Introduces self to patients/families and explains role (to assist in maintaining a safe environment) Provides timely feedback and follow up to radiology staff regarding patient response. Receives and provides report to other caregivers. Promptly responds to patient requests. Inform patients about planned procedures and treatments in order to reduce fear and anxieties and to encourage patient cooperation. Performs patient care functions within but not limited to Cerner PowerChart systems and RAdnet system. Records patient lab results and required data in appropriate areas. Transports patients as needed. Checks and restocks supplies as needed. Demonstrates effective organizational and time management skills. Performs other unit specific duties as delegated. Seeks ongoing learning experiences by attending appropriate in-services, continuing education and mandatory programs. Attends annual radiation safety in-service as modality requires. Applies awareness of potential radiation hazards and observes appropriate radiation safety Attends annual BLS certification. Maintains good rapport and cooperative relationships. Approaches conflict in a constructive manner. Helps to identify problems, offer solutions, and participate in their resolution. Maintains the confidentiality of information acquired pertaining to patient, physicians, associates, and visitors to Saint Joseph Mercy Health System. Discusses patient and hospital information only among appropriate personnel in private places. Follows all HIPAA policies and procedures. Behaves in accordance with the Mission, Vision and Values of Saint Joseph Mercy Health System. Demonstrates all SJMHS "Performance Standards: Focus on Others". Fully integrates Relationship Centered Care into role. Follows all SJMHS policies and procedures including infection control (use of body substance isolation and use of personal protective equipment when in contact with body fluids). Assumes responsibility for performance of job duties in the safest possible manner, to assure personal safety and that of coworkers. Reports all preventable hazards and unsafe practices immediately including near misses and actual errors either to management or using the SJMHS anonymous reporting system (Voice).

    REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATION/LICENSUR E

    Education: High school diploma or GED

    Experience: No experience required. Successful completion of a formal department orientation is required to meet the quality and productivity standards of the job.

    Certification: BLS required.

    Follow instructions and record patient information.

    Walk and stand for 90% of shift.

    Lift, turn, and position patients.

    Concentrate and pay close attention to details for over 90% of time.

    Able to work in area with potential exposure to infectious agents and/or contaminants.
