  • RESPONSIBILITIES

    I. JOB SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Performs a variety of instrument processing, supply, and distribution functions in Sterile Processing (SP), Operating Room (OR) Core, Same Day Surgery (SDS) or department as assigned.

    • Performs duties in accordance with Body Substance Isolation, established departmental procedures and accepted techniques.

    • Serves as a resource on service specialties and provides in-services for staff.

    • Collaborates with the lead senior specialist in daily activities as needed.

    II. TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

    • Essential: standing, walking, kneeling, twisting body, finger dexterity, seeing, hearing, speaking; lifting usual weight of 20 pounds up to maximum 50 pounds; pushing/pulling usual weight of maximum 50 pounds; carrying maximum weight of 50 pounds.

    • Frequent: stooping/bending, kneeling, reaching above, at and below shoulders, repetitive arm/hand motion and standing for long period of time.

    • Operates sterilizers, cart lift, cart washer, computer, copier, instrument tracking system. etc.

    III. TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

    • Subjected to heat while wearing protective uniform and working in decontam.

    • Subjected to noise/vibration from sterilizers and equipment.

    • Exposed to hazardous materials and chemicals.

    • Minimal exposure to fumes and gases.

    • Work environment can be mentally and emotionally stressful.

    IV. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    A. EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE:

    • High school diploma or equivalent education.

    • Certification as a Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) by the International Association of Healthcare Central Service Materiel Management (IAHCSMM) or Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) by The Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) required.

    B. EXPERIENCE:

    • One (1) year sterile processing experience, preferably in a comparable organization.

    • Knowledge of medical supplies and instrumentation.

    • Ability to communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing.

    • Knowledge of automated systems preferred.
