    A.T. Still University's Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine (ATSU-KCOM) is seeking an Administrative Assistant for the Biochemistry department. The position reports to the Chair of the Biochemistry Department. This person will be the secretary for the entire department; therefore, other faculty members of the department will have task-specific supervision of the secretary. The Administrative Assistant is responsible for performing routine secretarial tasks (typing, filing and retrieving records, answering the telephone, acting as a receptionist, etc.) and other various departmental tasks as may be required from time to time.

    Major Job Duties

    • Typing documents (letters, class handouts, etc.)

    • Retrieving, sorting, and delivering mail

    • Answering the phone

    • Taking and delivering phone messages

    • Filing and retrieving records

    • Interacting with students (during the Biochemistry departments teaching periods)

    • Scheduling appointments

    • Maintaining the Departmental website (during the Biochemistry departments teaching periods)

    • Placing and receiving orders of supplies

    • Maintaining the departmental office supply inventory

    • Maintaining financial records of the department and of the faculty's research funds

    • Help faculty in preparation of educational materials (obtaining, scanning or photo-copying images, etc.)

    • Making travel arrangements for faculty members

    Skills/Traits

    • Computer skills (word processing, spreadsheet use, website maintenance, Email, image scanning)

    • Ability to pleasantly interact with faculty, staff, and students

    • A "can-do" attitude

    • An aptitude for learning new tasks

    Requirements

    • This job may be occasionally stressful due to strict deadlines, which sometimes leave little time for work to be done. The job will require a person who is capable of handling this stress and is willing to work hard to accomplish the task in a timely fashion.
