    Summary

    The Lead Lighting is responsible for reviewing lighting designs, lighting orders, and pre-production of lighting equipment for events. This person goes to show-site when issues arise to troubleshoot and evaluate lighting related problems with gear and labor. Additionally, this role is responsible for teaching audio standards to on-site labor or other lighting specialist.

    This position will support our Audio Visual and Event Technology team. The position follows an in-person schedule working full-time in-office and/or show-site based out of Dallas, TX.

    Essential Duties & Responsibilities

    • Reviews wiring diagrams, lighting plots, and lighting gear for shows based on budgeted designs; ensure on-site personnel have and understand this information.

    • Handles on-site grievances up to and including notifying hiring manager if anyone needs to be released from their duties.

    • Supervises load-in, load-out, install, and dismantle of equipment.

    • Directs and/or assist both technical and labor crews.

    • Responsible for reviewing and ensuring the correct specification setup and optimization of meeting room, exhibits, and general sessions lighting systems.

    • Recommends lighting personnel during scheduling process to ensure company resources are used effectively and follow company procedures and employee policies.

    • Evaluates the competency of Lighting Specialists to ensure that Freeman's quality standards are maintained.

    • Performs show-site duties for high profile or technically complicated with significant entertainment or high-production value including: supervising show site labor, operating gear, and troubleshooting.

    • Reviews equipment logistics and gear use to ensure that company resources are used effectively, including minimizing cross-rentals and efficiently using interbranch gear.

    • Researches and recommends Capital Expenditure Lighting purchases for the company to keep abreast with current with industry standards and reduce cross rentals to maximize profitability.

    • Stays current with new and developing industry trends.

    • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Education & Experience

    • High school diploma or equivalent required; college degree in related field preferred.

    • Minimum 10 years experience working in lighting production with a minimum of 5 years focused on corporate events, entertainment, or theater; or equivalent combination of education, certification and experience.

    • Ability to engineer instructions in written, oral, or diagram form.

    • Ability to communicate how to install various related equipment.

    • Advanced understanding of lighting systems and optimization.

    • Advanced understanding of electricity, DMX signal flow, and lighting design fundamentals.

    • Advanced understanding of conventional, LED, moving lighting fixtures, lighting for video, dimmers, power distribution, and conventional lighting consoles.

    • Ability to install and troubleshoot complex lighting systems within an event.

    • Ability to lead lighting and rigging crew.

    • Experience with entertainment rigging, safety and structural stability.

    • Experience programming Hog or GrandMA.

    • Experience with ArtNet, sACN, or other networking protocols.

    • Experience drawing system design in VectorWorks and/or Lightwright.

    • Experience designing large-scale lighting systems with full-range lighting manufacturer equipment.

    • Experience with advanced networking and media server integration.

    • Strong general business acumen.

    Valid state drivers license required.
