    Responsibilities

    Under direct supervision, performs a variety of service duties such as: coordinating and performing the installation, testing, repair and replacement of electrical circuits and equipment; updating records. Maintains a clean, orderly, and safe facility. Performs other related duties as requested by authorized personnel.

    • Maintains fire life safety systems.

    • Calculates and notifies Supervisor of supplies needed and records supplies and equipment assigned to Electricians.

    • Installs and wires new electrical machinery not assigned to outside vendors.

    • Mounts motors, transformers, lighting fixtures, etc.

    • Installs fuse boxes, breakers, outlets, heat lights, switches, etc.

    • Replace sockets, plugs, fuses, insulators, fixtures, worn cords, etc.

    • Grounds electrical equipment, outlets, lights, etc.

    • Services and repairs paging system and parking lot gates.

    • Locates and repairs electrical malfunctions.

    • Dismantles equipment and rebuilds parts.

    • Evaluates major repairs for outside vendor repair.

    • Changes ballasts in fluorescent lights.

    • Maintains updated records.

    • Obtains permits for electrical work as directed by leadership.

    • Performs as a Member of the Fire Brigade and Disaster Team.

    • Delivers equipment throughout various areas in the Hospital including computer equipment, television sets, and various equipment as requested.

    • Performs other duties related to the department as requested by leadership.

    • Must complete preventive maintenance work within allotted timeframe.

    • Minimum Qualifications:

    • Must possess education equivalent to a high school diploma with a Journeyman Electrician Card.

    • Must possess and demonstrate the necessary discretion in dealing with confidential information, communication skills, initiative, tact, diplomacy, and dependability to perform all duties of the position.

    • Must have the ability to establish and maintain rapport with employees, supervisors, and contacts external to the Hospital.

    • Must be physically and mentally capable of performing all duties of the position. Must be neat in personal appearance.

    • Must be able to use a smartphone/computer to create work requests, order supplies and close corrective and preventive work orders.

    • Essential Functions:

    • Ability to read, write and speak the English language.

    • Must have normal vision or correctable vision.

    • Must be able to differentiate primary colors.

    • Must have normal finger dexterity.

    • Must have the ability to work without the use of mechanical assisting devices.

    • Must be able to lift objects weighing up to 80 pounds without the use of mechanical assisting devices.

    • Must be able to climb and work from ladders.

    • Must have normal hearing or correctable hearing to recognize various alarms that are in use in the institution, including but not limited to: fire, steam pressure, medical as and medical air alarms.

    • Interpersonal skills: written, oral and telephone.

    • Must be able to manipulate tools, instruments, equipment and materials commonly used in the Maintenance trades.

    • Must pass a Respirator Fit Test.

    • Working Conditions:

    • Occasional exposure to unpleasant Working Conditions, including: temperature extremes, excessive noise and the like.

    • Occasional exposure to hazards of electrical shock, cuts, scrapes and the like.

    • Occasional exposure to chemical hazards, respiratory and skin irritants and the like.

    • Orientation Requirements:

    • Medical Center New Hire Orientation and Departmental Orientation.

    Requirements

    Licensure / Certification / Registration:

    • Licensed Journeyperson specializing in Electrician credentialed from the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) required.

    • Drivers License obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required. Any valid United States driver's license will be acceptable. Must meet Risk Management requirements.

    Education

    • High School diploma or equivalent from an accredited program and Journeyman electrician card and experience required.
