    Robert Half is seeking a Linux System Administrator with a focus on Linux, virtualization, storage, and security for a New Mexico based organization.

    The Linux System Administrator's main responsibility is to develop and maintain Linux-based research specific computing systems, including databases. This position will play a leading role in facilitating scalable on-premises research computing solutions.

    The work is primarily performed on-site.

    Duties include

    • Working to evaluate the existing environment, identify research computing needs and design, implement, and optimize system configurations and/or software setups to migrate existing systems to newer environment.

    • Evaluating different virtualization solutions and technologies, selecting the best options for purchasing systems based on approval of budgets, research and security needs, and migrating from an existing datacenter to an newly designed sustainable environment.

    • Working with vendors and purchasing to acquire the required hardware and software.

    -Architect virtualization and storage solutions capable of supporting computing requirements. With focus on supporting virtual machines designed for databases and incorporating redundancy.

    -Collaborating and working to plan and architect network and security solutions to support physical and virtual servers and storage in single locations and cross campus locations.

    -Building, maintaining, troubleshooting, and migrating Linux based virtual machines capable of supporting research databases following project-specific requirements.

    -Current RHEL experience and experience implementing various hypervisors

    -Assisting researchers by installing and maintaining off-the-shelf and custom software packages, including designing, and debugging complex research workflows.

    -Managing licensing support, license servers, and associated compliance issues related to research software and data.

    -Managing and installing programming languages, environments, and packages commonly used for research computing such as Python, R, and C/C++, as well as discipline-specific packages.

    -Collaborating with IT and Information Security personnel to maintain the integrity of research cyberinfrastructure.

    -Ability to work both independently and in a team environment

    The successful Linux System Administrator will have

    • Experience with Linux Systems Administration, Virtualization (KVM, VmWare etc..)

    • Experience with Oracle databases and programming is a plus.

    -Detailed understanding of computer systems configurations.

    • Experience designing, building, maintaining, and troubleshooting virtualization solutions.

    • Experience designing, building, maintaining, and troubleshooting storage solutions.

    • Experience building, maintaining, and troubleshooting Linux servers.

    • Experience compiling and installing Linux operating systems, software, and packages.

    • Experience in database security, data safety and integrity, disaster recovery.

    • Ability to lead execute tasks within specific and well-defined projects.

    • Working knowledge of one or more scripting languages such as bash, Perl, or Python.

    • Solid documentation skills.

    -Bachelor's degree; at least 2 years of progressively responsible experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

    Preferred Qualifications

    -Experience working with or identifying potential controlled unclassified information (CUI), with focus on HIPAA-, HITECH- and FIPS-relevant data.

    -Experience with backup and recovery tools.

    -Experience with building and maintaining databases.

    -Experience developing and implementing research software and/or workflows.

    -Experience in database development and implementation of bulk data import/export procedures.

    -Experience performing or supporting research in the health sciences.

    -Experience integrating data from field or laboratory sensors/instruments into computational workflows.

    -Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.

    -Effective verbal and written communication skills including system documentation.

    -Familiarity with network security procedures and protocols.

    -Oracle Skill with Oracle 19C or higher, PL/SQL, SQL, TOAD, Oracle SQL Developer, RMAN

    -Experience programming in shell scripting (e.g. BASH, Python) and a high-level language such as C, C++, Java, or Fortran.

    -Web: PHP, HTML, web server configuration and security

    -Knowledge of encryption clients and tools

    -Knowledge of firewall configuration and rules
