    Opportunity

    Under the direction of the Plastics Superintendent, provides leadership and technical guidance for the identification, planning and execution of engineering programs consistent with sound engineering practices and company policies to facilitate the execution of the capital plan and support the overall manufacturing processes in a proactive manner. Also responsible for production process development and implementation including technical, tooling and new product development support, as well as oversight of the Plastics' maintenance program.

    Supervises non-exempt and salaried engineering associates and ensures innovation through effective leadership of the Engineering and Maintenance departments. The incumbent develops and implements the engineering strategy of all engineering functions that support the Plant's overall strategic direction.

    Specific Responsibilities

    • Manages the daily efforts of the engineering group aimed at identifying, leading, and completing productivity, continuous improvement, lean manufacturing, quality, and cost reduction projects in the plant that provide a competitive advantage and profitability.

    • Responsible for the following Plant Engineering functions for the plant.

    • Reviews the needs and requests for changes to buildings, grounds, and equipment.

    • Develops specs, obtain quotes and draft requests for facility projects.

    • Acts as project lead for facility projects and selects and schedules contractors to make sure project is completed on schedule.

    • Assists with drafting capital requests, obtaining specs and quotes and scheduling capital spending.

    • Reviews major facility changes with Corporate Engineering, Wisconsin.

    • Negotiates contracts with local vendors when necessary and coordinates installation and testing of equipment.

    • Manages use of onsite landfills (north and south) and 4 waste water ponds to include dredging.

    • Responsible for the oversight of the Plant's maintenance function, including ground upkeep, janitorial services, waste removal, pump house, fire protection equipment. Maintenance of vehicles, plumbing and utility equipment.Manage 45 fork trucks and oversee maintenance agreement.Complete full spectrum maintenance for over 1,225 pieces of equipment and oversee spare parts cage with over 7,700 parts.Installation of new equipment.

    • Provides technical support and direction to the installation of new equipment and systems, including the action and control of costs associated with these projects. Supervises the obtaining of cost analysis information for proposed new production, materials or processes, or modifications to existing products, materials or processes.

    • Develops, teaches, and champions process engineering procedures, tools, and techniques.Participates in engineering reviews of project tasks. Coaches to ensure informed decisions are made concerning technical content of projects. Remains up-to-date on best practices and recommend new approaches/tools.

    • Ensures capable engineering resources are in place and provides support for the strategic, physical and tactical implementation at the plant.

    • Manages development of engineering and technical staff. Provides performance expectations and evaluation for these resources relative to product and process engineering skill, discipline, growth, teamwork and project results.Conducts formal performance management for growth (quintiles, MaxP's).

    • Designs and develops new or improved processes to improve safety, ergonomics and effectiveness of manufacturing processes. Ensure adherence to all safety policies and will support safety initiatives as needed.

    • Champions continuous improvement and cost reduction efforts to constantly improve the process and lower costs by researching, investigating, developing, and implementing new or improved manufacturing technology.Actively seeks updated knowledge of the engineering profession, the industry and application of new technologies.

    • Provides technical training and support to manufacturing teams.

    • Supports Engineering staff in evaluating and assessing the applicability and efficiency of the production methodology, materials, and equipment used in manufacturing.

    • Accountable for key input to facilities expansion requirement, both as to type of equipment and timing of construction.Providing planning input and coordination with Kohler corporate engineering, staff engineering or outside engineering firms to see that facility expansion meets division production requirements.

    • Oversees compliance with all Environmental and Municipal Regulations.

    Skills/Requirements

    • Bachelor's Degree in an engineering discipline from an ABET accredited program, plus 10 years of work experience in a manufacturing environment with process, plant, industrial and project engineering where safety, quality, innovation and time-to-market are priorities.

    • Must have a thorough understanding of Manufacturing processes and systems and the engineering expertise to support those processes or systems.

    • Effective experience with the use of project management tools and techniques is required.

    • Must also have exceptional communication and computer skills which enable you to present proposals in a way which can be understood at various levels within the organization.

    The salary range for this position is $107,650 - $137,150. The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate's experience, their education, and the work location. Available benefits include medical, dental, vision & 401k.
