    Description:

    POSITION PURPOSE

    Material handlers transport equipment, linen, supplies, trash, food, and pharmacy carts to designated areas. Maintains appropriate stock in each area. Maintain and monitor the use of the automatic guided vehicle system. Cleans and sanitizes linen carts using cart washing equipment.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    Transports and delivers equipment, linen, supplies, trash, food, and pharmacy cart by user departments from general stores. Responsible for unit inventories and coordination of linens to assure adequate daily par levels and supply needs. Operates freight elevator to transport medical and non-medical supplies to and from the designated areas. Works closely with receiving dock handlers in unloading SJMHS vehicles delivering supplies from the Material Center to the hospital dock. Works closely with Receiving Dock Handlers to coordinate flow of supplies, linen, food, equipment, trash, and pharmacy carts to all user departments. Monitor and support AGVs; provide first response to down AGV, and clean AGV units as needed. Responsible for basic trouble shooting to keep units running. Unloads Co-op laundry trucks and transports clean linen to the clean linen holding area. Prepares unit specific clean linen exchange carts following prescribed schedule and par level. Delivers clean linen exchange carts to specific department locations. Collects soiled linen daily from SJMH units and transports to dock. Transfers soiled linen from SJMH collection carts to Co-op laundry carts in preparation for transports to Co-op Laundry. Collects materials from SJMH departments designated for warehousing and archives. Maintains required distribution records. Answer telephone and respond to routine inquires and maintains good Customer Service. Maintains elevator, clean receiving rooms, soiled sending rooms and the areas of the basement next to the elevator, in an orderly manner. Operates SJMH trucks to transport linen between Material Center and hospital dock on Saturdays and Sundays. Operates power industrial type pallet jack to transport heavy supplies throughout SJMHS. Prepares outbound items for disposal or off-site storage of hospital archives and records. Responsible for backing up job duties of Receiving Dock Handlers in event of staff shortage or emergencies. Other duties assigned by SDL or Team Leader(s).

    OTHER FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    Performs all Characteristic/Essential duties of an Environmental Aide, Environmental Specialists, and Waste Handler.

    REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE

    Requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Basic skills in reading, writing and arithmetic.

    REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES

    Must possess good interpersonal skills and be able to interact with coworkers, vendors, and other staff in a positive and constructive manner. Ability to perform heavy physical labor such as constant bending, stooping and lifting. Ability to remain on feet for extended periods of time. Must be able to lift 70 lbs. Prioritize assigned tasks and organize work. Walk and stand approximately 90% of work time. Ability to use and read a platform scale and perform basic mathematical calculations. Ability to operate large vehicle.
