  • Description

    Seeking a mechanical engineer to support a nuclear waste project(s) for nuclear power plant located in Japan.

    Technical Description

    Design, development, and testing of first-of-a-kind remote-handling equipment. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Design of remote-handling tools and systems for hazardous environments using 3D CAD (SolidWorks) modeling tools

    • Perform analysis of component sizing including drive components, motors, bearings, etc.

    • Perform preliminary analysis of mechanical/structural systems, including finite element analysis of stress/strain

    • Interface with hydraulic and controls engineers

    • Develop design documents including reports, client emails/status, and project deliverables

    • Support design reviews and comment incorporation of designs

    • Develop manufacturing drawings in accordance with applicable standards

    • Perform assembly tasks for designed systems and oversee outside vendors in fabrication of designed parts

    • Interface with outside vendors for component selection, manufacturing, and assembly

    • Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, and computer-generated reports

    Skills & Qualifications:

    • A Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering (or equivalent) is required

    • Strong machine design experience

    • Good manufacturing support experience

    • Can work independently and comfortable making design decisions

    • Ability to work as part of a team

    NICE TO HAVES (NOT Required):

    • 5+ years technical experience in engineering design is preferred

    • Hydraulic, Electro-mechanical, nuclear and/or other high hazard industry experience is preferred

    • Ability to write technical documents

    • Hydraulic system experience

    • Nuclear or other high hazard industry experience

    • Proficient with 3D CAD design

    • Proficient with SolidWorks
