  • Responsibilities

    Job Summary:

    The Med Technologist-Spec is responsible for the timely and accurate reporting of results, maintenance and troubleshooting of laboratory instrumentation, development of new procedures and instruments, writing/updating of procedure manuals, training of staff, providing both clinical and administrative supervisory support and inventory of supplies/reagents. He/She is also responsible for the performance of all the duties of a Medical Technologist II as needed.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Workup of new instruments/procedures; writing/updating of procedure and safety manuals (20%).

    • Training of technologists, technicians, residents on new procedures/instruments (5%)

    • Maintenance and troubleshooting of instruments/procedures; documentation of essential information such as calibration data, calibration verification, and reagent lots, etc. (20%).

    • Monitoring and ordering of reagents/supplies (5%).

    • Performing the duties of a Med Tech II (30%).

    • Coordinates and monitors QC trends (5%).

    • Provides technical guidance to internal staff and external customers regarding appropriate laboratory assays to meet research objectives (5%).

    • Participates in activities supporting laboratory operations and research studies, including protocol and system validation and industry and regulatory audits. (10%).

    Relationships/Authorities:

    • Technical Specialist reports to the Central Lab Hem-Chem Manager.

    • Generally works independently, seeking guidance from laboratory Supervisors, and/or Faculty.

    Education/Experience:

    • MS in Clinical Chemistry, or related science and at least 3 years of relevant clinical laboratory experience.

    • BS in Medical Technology and at least 6 years of relevant clinical laboratory experience.

    • BS degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology and at least 7 years of relevant clinical laboratory experience.

    • An equivalent combination of education and experience.

    • New York State License to Practice in the Clinical Laboratories.

    Pay Range

    Pay Range: $36.50 - $47.45 Hourly

    The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
