    Split Position covering Middletown & Hartford clinics, Monday- Friday with one Saturday per month

    Community Health Center is seeking a highly skilled Pediatric Dentist to re-establish a robust dental practice at it's Connecticut Pediatrics location in Hartford. The practice will focus on preventative and minor restorative early childhood dental care within a fully integrated pediatric care center, which also includes medical and behavioral health services.

    JOB SUMMARY

    Key areas of focus include: providing the full range of preventative and minor restorative services to pediatric patients, with an emphasis on younger children

    • Helping children establish good oral health habits at an early age

    • Educating parents and children on proper brushing and flossing techniques

    • Reviewing x-rays to assist in diagnosing and proper course of treatment

    • Timely completion of patient records to for early identification of issues and to support care continuity

    • Following up with parents after treatment to ensure successful execution

    • Compliance with all relevant care regulations and best practices

    ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    Provides routine preventative and minor restorative dental treatment to pediatric patients with emphasis on early childhood patients. Provides appropriate diagnosis and treatment planning of routine and emergency dental problems. Makes appropriate referral of patients to specialist or alternative providers, as needed. Communicate effectively with patients and parents/caregivers to help support long-term dental health; timely follow-up on questions or issues. Maintains accurate documentation of all dental services, by completion of the encounter form at the end of each visit and the dental record by the end of each day. Ensures strict compliance with safety and infection control standards by self and other dental team members. Ensures continuous maintenance of dental facility and equipment by appropriate dental team members. Provide diagnosis, treatment and referral for dental emergencies, after hours, for CHC patients, via on-call service. Provides timely response to calls and document results. Maintains open communication with Chief Dental Officer, Site Manager and other staff. Oversees the work of dental assistant Participates in clinical staff training, evaluation of and assessment of dental services and quality assurance program. Participates in continuing education activities to improve clinical dental skills. Exhibits excellent communication and customer service skills to external and internal customers at all times, with a focus on quality of care and teamwork that focuses on the needs of the department and/or the business of the Agency. Maintains compliance with agency annual Training/Education requirements as outlined in Policies & Procedures manual (Working Safely, EOC, Abuse trainings, etc.)

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Education - DDS or DMD degree from accredited dental school required. Residency - (preferred) GPR or AEGD certification OR 1-2 years general dental clinical experience. Licensure - State of Connecticut dental license, NERB or Regional Dental Boards, DEA (Federal and State) active licensure. Interest in providing care to diverse patient population. Written and oral bilingual fluency in language spoken by our patient population (for example, English/Spanish or English/Polish) strongly preferred. CHC requires as a condition of employment current American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer and AED (CPR/FPR/AED) certification. The only acceptable alternative is current American Heart Association BLS/AED for Healthcare Providers certification.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

    • Requires good to excellent manual dexterity and fine motor coordination; good vision; physical mobility and flexibility; good reflexes; light lifting required; potential exposure to blood borne pathogens through direct patient contact.

    • Must follow OSHA standards and universal precautions.

    COMMUNICATION SKILLS:

    • Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively with dental staff members, as well as other CHC staff to ensure integrated approach to care

    • Requires caring/compassionate communication with patients and their parents/caregivers

    CONFIDENTIALITY OF INFORMATION:

    • Patient information is kept in strict confidence. Confidentiality of patient and business information is a requirement. Full access to patient medical records and encounter data. Confidentiality must be maintained according to CHC policies.

    • Responsibility for client data entry

    • Access to medical system information.

    • Confidential patient correspondence.
